“Renee,” Percilla spoke clearly, claiming her full attention. “I need you to follow my every instruction. Clear?”
“Crystal,” Renee replied, hearing Adam’s sigh of a protest.
“This is to protect you.”
Those were five words Renee did not need to hear in order.
… It sounded entirely too much like her mother’s to be able to respond.
So she opted out. Instead, Renee blinked, waiting for the next thing Percilla had to say to sort out the discomfort she felt.
Percilla moved with her as if she was a Secret Service agent, keeping her eyes sharp to all activity surrounding their squad. Plenty of creatures were afoot and overhead; some Renee hadn’t met before either.
