Carter had just been lying on the couch, eating a chocolate bar when she heard the phone in the kitchen ring. She groaned, not wanting to get up.
"Lucas!" She called. "Can you get that?"
No answer.
She sighed, remembering he had left that morning for a meeting with another pack. She pulled herself up and walked into the kitchen just in time to hear it stop ringing and the voicemail play.
"Hey, Lucas, it's Jess," Jess's voice sounded. "Was just calling to tell you that we almost have enough people to triple patrol around the house to protect Carter. Listen man, I know you love her but you need to tell her about the warning they sent. She deserves to know. Call me when you get back."
