The USS Constitution is the oldest ship still commissioned in the US Navy, the oldest by about two hundred years, which is a long gap in a Navy that isn’t yet two hundred and fifty years old.
This is another side character who insisted that she had a story to tell. In Light Up the Night, Trisha and Bill have a confrontation aboard the Constitution while it is moored in Boston Harbor.
As I was researching it, I found out that the officers who walk the decks are not characters in costumes, but rather commissioned Naval officers and enlisted crew who have vied for their positions. To serve aboard the oldest ship in the Navy is a deeply coveted slot offered only to the most dedicated and well-trained personnel.
