CHAPTER 1: THE PLAYER GOT PLAYED
***
Slowly getting up from the warmth of the bed sheets a beautiful woman with long blond hair spoke to the man she had just been in bed with.
“I’m so happy you invited me yesterday…” Speaking with such adoration towards the man. She walked up to him and wrapped her arms around his neck staring into his eyes.
However the man she so tenderly embraced seemed to be completely unimpressed by the woman’s actions and moved her hands away while stepping aside from her.
“It’s good you enjoyed yourself but I have to go to work now so I don’t have time to entertain you anymore.” The man spoke coldly and indifferently.
“I understand. But… Can I ask you something before you leave?” She asked speaking softly standing behind the man who was putting on his tie.
“What is it?” He asked not even turning around to look at her.
“Well… We’ve been together for a while. So I thought I’d tell you, that I love you.” The affectionate voice of the blond haired woman resonated within the hotel room.
“Tsk. I have no idea how you came up with that. We are not ‘together’. Despite sleeping with you yesterday I have absolutely no intention of being in a relationship with you.” The man cruelly said.
“Wh-.. What?” The woman got teary eyed hearing those cruel words from the man she had fallen in love with.
“Look don’t cry, it’s annoying.” The man furrowed his brow from annoyance looking at her. “Here, I will leave you money and let’s not meet again. I don’t want another scene like this.”
After saying those petrifying words and leaving money on the night stand, he left the hotel room not even saying goodbye to the crying woman.
***
“What kind of crazy scene was that?! I can’t believe it!” John said after listening to his friend’s explanation of last night’s events.
“I know right? I can’t believe she cried.” Albert said with annoyance as he held up his whiskey glass bringing it to his lips.
“I was talking about you! How could you act like that? She told you she loved you and you just insulted her by giving her money. Was she just a hook up to you?” John corrected his friend who misunderstood what he was upset about.
“What else could I have done? I wanted her to calm down. But even after I gave her the money she continued crying so I just left.” Albert answered as he was bewildered by the woman’s strange actions that morning.
“You really don’t get it, do you? She wanted you to answer to her feelings not her financial needs.” John was already giving up on explaining things to his friend who didn’t seem to be even close to understanding.
“Ha… Women are so needy.” Albert sighed thinking about the events from this morning once again.
“No rather you are too much. At age twenty eight you are changing your girlfriends faster than they take their clothes off for you. It’s unbelievable” John couldn’t help but get annoyed at his friend for such behavior.
“It should have been a give and take relationship. I thought I had made that clear from the beginning, but she still had the nerve to blame me for her feelings.” Albert was getting a head ache just thinking about it.
“Man, you are definitely going to get stabbed someday if you continue as is.” John sipped on his own beverage while saying those words.
“Let’s not mention something so grim.” Taking another sip of his whiskey Albert ordered more to the bartender who nodded his head in agreement.
“I’m just worried about you…” John spoke in a lower tone. “I don’t want you to end up all alone someday. You should find a nice woman you can share your life with and marry.”
“I like how things are right now. Having no strings attached relationships are perfect for someone so busy like me. I can’t afford to waste my time on a relationship when I have a company to run.” Albert explained with his usual icy tone of voice.
“For a super capable CEO, in your personal life you’re utterly hopeless. Has no woman even caught your interest?” John asked his dense friend while taking another sip of his own beverage.
“No, not really. I don’t believe in such things as a ‘fated’ relationship. Meeting ‘the one’ simply doesn’t happen, and if it does, it won’t happen for me.” Albert confidently stood his ground on this topic. He didn’t think of himself as a pessimist, rather he thought of himself as a realist. Waiting on a fated encounter with your ‘soul mate’ was simply a ridiculous concept for him.
“Look, I’d love to stay here and listen to your complaining, but I have a wife to go back to. She texted me earlier to tell me she’ll be waiting for me with dinner prepared.” John said with a smirk on his face that basically read ‘you wish you had a wife that makes you dinner’ written all over his face.
“Sure have a nice evening John. Give my best regards to Jennifer.” Albert replied to his friend not feeling at all jealous of him.
“I will. Also don’t go back with another woman okay? Finish your drink and leave.” John said with concern to what his friend is going to be mixed in next with his bad habits.
“Fine, fine, what are you, my mother? Just go back to your wifey already.” Albert answered in an annoyed voice, he didn’t like being told what to do like this.
“Haha! Just taking care of you buddy. You make me feel like a father when we talk like this.” John said to his friend in a cheery voice ready to head out. “Thanks for the drinks. Goodnight.” He said lastly and left quickly.
***
About 10 minutes later of sipping on his whiskey and sinking into the atmosphere of the bar, Albert finished his drink and was ready to leave as well. Putting his coat on he went outside for the taxi he called for. When he noticed a strange couple next to the bar.
Albert didn’t plan on paying attention to them until he overheard the latter words:
“Dear~ why don’t you come with me quietly huh?” The man said pulling her hand towards him.
“L-let go of me!” Unfortunately because it was so late at night there weren’t many people around. And those who were there didn’t want to get involved in a scene like this one. “Help! Somebody please!” The woman yelled out then noticed Albert that had just came out of the bar. Managing to release herself from the man’s hands she ran into Albert bumping into his chest in the process. “Please help me.” She pleaded with teary eyes.
Albert didn’t want to get involved in something like this but after seeing the woman’s expression he decided to help her. Pulling her into the taxi then entering as well, telling the driver where to go to. The man that was left behind cursed when he saw them get away.
Within the taxi car the woman was shocked to have experienced all that but said: “Thank you so much…”
Albert on the other hand was shocked not by the situation but by his own actions. He wasn’t as much of a saint to help someone in need like that. He couldn’t get involved in fights because of his high status in society, yet…
“Is something the matter mister?” The woman asked looking at his confused expression.
What confused Albert most, was how hard his heart was beating after looking at the woman. ‘No… this isn’t my heart racing… It’s just beating faster because of the impact of her bumping into me.’ He told himself and finally regained his composure to speak.
“Everything is fine. Who was that man, do you know him?” Albert asked looking straight ahead not at the woman.
“He’s… a customer that wanted me to go out with him. I refused time and time again but he just won’t stop…” The woman was trying to withhold her tears, her face was reddened. Her quiet sobs could be heard within the otherwise silent taxi.
“Calm down, it’s okay now.” Albert placed one of his hands on the woman’s shoulder.
Sensing the man’s hand she took it in hers. “You really are a kind person.” The woman said looking into the man’s eyes.
‘Again…’ Albert thought to himself. He felt his heart rush again. But why… she was just holding his hand. There is nothing special about that. ‘I must be going insane.’ He continued to wonder.
“I have no idea how I am going to go to work anymore… I have only night shifts and I am too scared to go anymore.” The woman said while letting go of Albert’s hand.
“Where do you work?” Once again steadily regaining his composure he asked the woman sitting next to him.
“The bar that we were next to. Heaven’s Door Bar.” The woman was also steadily becoming calmer.
“Then… if it’s only night shifts I can come with to make sure everything is okay.” After saying those words Albert suddenly froze. Thinking back on what he had just suggested it sounded like such a ridiculous idea. He had no clue what had gotten into him.
“Really?!” The woman exclaimed, “That would be a huge help!” She smiled brightly being reassured by the man next to her.
Seeing how happy she was, Albert couldn’t help but smile just a little bit at how cute she looked at that moment.
“Sir?” The woman asked looking at how lost in thought the man was.
“Yes?” Albert answered after a second of thought.
“Well, I don’t even know your name.” She said looking into his eyes.
“It’s Albert Cunningham. How about your name?” Albert returned the question as he as well had no idea what was the woman’s name.
“Oh yes! My name is Amanda Hendrix. It’s very nice to meet you Mr. Cunningham.” Amanda said with a smile directed towards the man.
“No need for formalities miss Hendrix.” Albert said looking a bit shy at being called by his second name.
“Oh then you can also call me by my first name!” Amanda said excitedly.
“We’ve arrived sir.” Said the taxi driver as he parked the car.
“Well, I guess this is good night then.” Albert paid the driver for the ride. “Please take this and get home safely” Then also handed a 50$ bill to Amanda suggesting she go back with the same taxi to her own home.
Amanda however didn’t wish to accept the money and didn’t take it. “Albert you’ve done enough for me already. I will pay for my own way back.”
“I insist.” Albert said, he wasn’t used to people refusing to take money from him.
“It’s okay. How about I have your number instead?” Amanda said smiling and taking out her phone to write it down.
“Sure… it’s XXX-XXX-XXX.” Albert said watching how fast the woman typed it in. She repeated it back to him and he confirmed it was his number.
“Then… Good night Albert.” Amanda said waving her right hand.
“Good night.” He answered closing the car’s door. He was left surprised by such a woman.
After going back to his mansion he still thought about her for a little bit. Amanda was nothing like the other women he’s been with. He had a preferred type in women, he liked them with long blond hair, all made up, perfectly styled, mostly preferring to date models and actresses. However Amanda wasn’t most of those things. She had long brown hair instead, simply parted down the middle without much else added to it, she was also neither an actress nor model but worked in a bar instead. Yet Albert was feeling attracted to her none the less.
***
Ever since that day… For an entire week Albert has been visiting Heaven’s Door every single nightshift that Amanda had.
“Welcome! Albert I am so glad to see you again.” Amanda said excitedly but in a subdued tone.
“How has work been?” Albert asked while sitting by the bar counter.
“It’s been great, ever since you’ve started coming, less men have been asking me out. I feel so much safer… Thanks to you…” She said a bit embarrassedly.
“I’m glad I could help. What will you make for me today?” Albert asked expecting to see another interesting cocktail mixture from the woman. They had already made it a habit for them to spend time like this.
“I have something very special! Look.” Amanda said and revealed her latest mixture to the man, as always not saying what’s in it.
“Looks great.” Albert blatantly lied. It was a weird greenish color, he wasn’t certain it was safe for drinking even. However he didn’t want to say how bad it looked to the woman herself.
“I know right! I tried really hard making it for you. So I hope you like it.” Amanda said smiling.
‘What a beautiful smile.’ Albert thought to himself. Admiring the woman’s good looks had become a habit at this point.
“Also I’m sorry to ask this of you but today the bar is closing early so could you help me a bit? All the other workers are gone.” Amanda asked a favor of the lost in a daydream man.
“Yes, of course.” Albert answered as he brought the cup to his lips. Taking a sip of it he realized it didn’t taste as bad as it looked, it was even a little sweet.
***
Soon after everyone else in the bar had already left only the two remained.
“Thank you again for staying back to help me.” Amanda said gratefully to the man.
“It’s no problem really.” Albert answered.
“Hey, would you like another drink?” Amanda asked. “If you would join me that is…”
Albert had already drunk enough, but something in his brain switched after he heard ‘if you would join me’ so he agreed.
“I was just thinking about that as well.”
*
Drinking together after the bar had closed Albert felt they were getting closer to one another. As they spoke they found out they had a lot of things in common. In fact there were so many coincidences it was making Albert’s heart race a bit.
“You know, I have to admit something.” Amanda said while sipping on her drink. “The truth is… that man hasn’t come back since the time you saved me.”
“Didn’t you say…” Albert thought back on it and was left with the impression that he has still been bothering her.
“It’s just… I wanted you to continue coming over to the bar… So I lied.” Amanda said admitting to her lies.
“It’s okay, but why would you?” Albert didn’t mind a small lie like that but he had no idea why would she want him to continue coming.
“It’s… I… towards you…” Amanda hesitated to say her next words. “Forget it, I was confused for a sec-” Suddenly she felt how Albert pulled her toward himself and pressed his lips onto hers. “Hmp!”
Finally releasing her from that tender yet passionate kiss he spoke.“Me too.”
Something had gotten into Albert, he no longer felt like himself anymore.
He wasn’t sure if it was due to the alcohol’s effect. Or because of all the coincidences that have been happening. But he was getting excited. He was holding back from telling her anything because she was different than his other girlfriends. But now that he knows that she feels the same, there is nothing holding him back.
*
That night they went to a hotel. Albert was extremely surprised by the shocking difference between Amanda in the daytime and now that they had slept together. While working she was kind mannered, gentle and looked so delicate that she would easily break. However in bed Amanda was unbelievably desperate and slutty.
It made Albert question all the times he’s made love before. ‘This feels so much better. I never thought sex could be so good.’ He thought to himself while embracing the woman moaning out his name. “Ah… I can’t… Albert! H-harder! T-there!”
‘I’ve never felt something like this before…’ Albert was getting more and more excited with the woman in his arms. He wanted to possess her.
“Ya… Ah… Ahh… Ngh…” Amanda continued to moan loudly. It was turning him on even more. He felt loosing all control of himself that night.
*
The next morning though… To his surprise, Amanda was nowhere to be found.
“Maybe she had work to do…” Albert thought to himself as he stood up to look around and quickly noticed that both his wallet and clothes were missing.
“No way… Calm down… I should call her first and find out-” He interrupted his own train of thought when he remembered giving his number to Amanda but he didn’t have hers.
“What the Hell is happening…”
*
Meanwhile… Amanda was happily walking back to her place. Thinking back on the scene in the hotel she smiled. “Such easy prey… I wonder what you will do now… Mr. CEO.”
