I grip the wooden poles as the maid instructs, the thin and surprisingly strong chords in the back of my corset tighten further. I gasp and hold my breath, gripping the poles so hard they snap in half, for the third time. I bring my grip on them lower until I'm pretty much bending over, the stupid 'traditional' metal corset trying to kill me. I was to meet my future mate tonight, and, as it turns out, is not Duarte, who I hate even more now. Turns out it's his son, who wanted to be surprised when he saw who won the contest he instructed, since he didn't want to find his real soulmate, apparently. The only good side, he's around my age.
