Her face scrunches, so I take my cup and sit down next to her.
"I swear, I would never invade anyone's personal space. It is against the gentlemen's code." Her face softens,
"What?" I can hear the chuckle she is trying to hide. I gave her a smile, a gentle one, as I took her hand.
"A long time ago, I wasn't a great person. Soon after becoming a demon, I wasn't sure what to do. There weren't any greetings or anything from others, so needless to say I wasn’t a great demon either. I didn't understand the reason why I was a demon instead of a spirit. I had no real meaning in life as human but one thing." Flashes of blood, babies crying, men shouting not the words but the echo. A long time had passed since then. Samantha's face got closer,
"Trevor." Her voice was a soothing breeze in my twisted mind. I started to feel eased.
"When I met two other demons both ten times my age, I was only a decade old, one of them showed me my purpose for what I was given a chance to do. While the other decided to teach me all the things that make a proper gentleman." She nods then scratches at the paper with a pen.
"Who was your first seer?"
"I met this little girl in 1846. She was on the streets in France, she had the biggest blues I've ever seen, and I could not figure out why she seemed different. I asked my um." Grendel was the man that took me in after finding me fighting another demon after losing control again for the umf time in a century to the beast placed in me when I woke to madness. He was a much older demon and different from all the others I've ever met. There were no ranks, no orders, nothing. It was complete chaos. Meeting that man changed my life after I lost my first friend put me back on track with my purpose, my reason, and it was for people like her and the spirit. He taught me about those as well.
"Old friend about it. She had the sight like you. She could see me and hear me. She wasn't scared, she smiled, it was sad. Amici's was her name. She lost her mother to a thief and her brothers to war. However, since her father was half crippled, he couldn't go, they lived on the streets, and he died in the winter right in front of her. He had his hands on her arms, not letting her go, she said. Grendel, my friend, told me that her father's spirit took shelter in his daughter. There was nothing anyone could do because he was intertwining himself in her soul. I had decided that I would help her and give her some of my energy to help ward off other spirits and, if I could no longer protect her, ways to exterminate them. She saw other demons, and they saw her, so I gave her a necklace to hide her from their sight for a while as well. I watched her grow, she was like a sister. She even had a daughter. Her husband died from war, but there was love. She fell in love with another human in England after we left for a better place for Scarlet, her blazing red-curly-haired daughter. Her father was Scottish, actually. Anyway, he had broken her heart. If she had allowed it, I would have torn him to shreds for what he did." I glanced at her, her face so serious and focused on me. I smiled. She blinks,
"What did he do?" She asks.
"When we got to England, I got her a nice place on a farm to live. The man was the homeowner I bought it from. He had come to see how things were going, he said, but then he started to court Amici when they were supposed to marry. He laughed in her face, telling her she was just his wh*re and that he was getting married to a duchess' daughter. She was so hurt and filled with rage that her father filled her eyes with a quiet, angrier spirit. I had to do a separation ritual and..." I will always remember Amici's eyes flashed a bright white the night she died. The spirit inside her was one of grief and hate, so it slowly ate away at her and the heart break literally broke her. I knew the ritual wasn't going to work. It never did, but I couldn't stand to watch her as she cried in pain as he burned her from the inside out with hot ice. Her face was blue and black as he came out of her mouth in misty white fog. "It didn't work. He had devoured her soul and took her life." A tear fell from her face.
"What happened to her daughter?" She asks, whipping her face.
"I was able to get her to a school that had dorms two years prior, so she was there when this happened. I buried her mother in the yard under the big tree. I had traveled to the school to tell her what had happened. Scarlet was sad, but she was twelve now, and she told me that she already knew because Amici had come to see her and that she could see fog of black around me. So, I started to teach her as well. This time I didn't stay after I finished teaching her because there was a war in the underworld and my people needed me." Grendel had found me one day at the farm with twenty-nine-year-old Scarlet, who had mastered it so easily it was like second nature to her. I was confident that she could protect herself and her new family. I would look in on her now and then, and slowly over the years I was no longer able to because things got worse in the Underworld." She nods her head, then the bell rings. "I got it." I smile, kiss her head, then make my way to the door.
I set plates, forks and chopsticks onto the island as she gets the food out of the bag.
"Does Gigi know?" I laughed with a nod.
"Many years passed, the war ended, and I met your great-grandmother and her daughter. I had orders to protect them, but your great-grandmother kept refusing it." I laughed a little bit more thinking of the stern, elderly lady with bones in her hair and murky blue eyes insisting that her power was strong. "The blood of Amici and Scarlet runs in my vines. I can protect my own. Thanks for the offer demon." She was never scared of me, never doubted what I said, and I was grateful for her kindness. "She complemented me on my gentlemen etiquette. Your grandma was eighteen when I met them. She saw my smoke the second she looked at me, "Demon.". It was the first and only thing she said before she went to the kitchen through the living room." I laughed thinking about Gigi's reaction and stoned face.
"SO, Gigi, knew you were here for a long time then." I nodded,
"I believe so, however, I did use glamour to look younger. I don't doubt if she walked through that door right now she would probably cast me out."
"Why?"
"We didn't end things on good terms."
"What happened?"
"That is for another time." She nods,
"Is anything about demons online or in the bible true?" I shrug. I never thought about what humans come up with, since we can't expose ourselves, so the less truth the better.
"None, that I have read." I started digging into my food, as did she.
"Is there a satan? Or a god?"
"There hasn't been one in eons."
"Is there order in hell?"
"Not right now. We are still fixing our leadership after the war. Though most demons prefer the Underworld to hell. "
"You said you taught magic? Is it the things Gigi has taught me?" I nodded.
"Does human food do anything or is it a waste?" I choked a little on noddle's trying to suppress a laugh.
"I taste it, I have things I won't eat and, yes, I get some energy but not as much as I could get from eating underworld food."
"Come again?" I smiled and reached into my pocket,
"Try this your mom use to love them when she was young." I give her the equivalent to a chocolate bar we have at our stores. She takes it slowly,
"So, you did know my mom?" I nodded,
"Yes, but only until she was eight. I was given a seat on the council, so I had to leave."
"Did you check in with us as well?" She didn't show emotion, but I could feel it coming off her, sadness, ashamed, a hint of anger.
"Yes, I tried too many times to come back, but I had to fix the chaos after the war and that alone was overwhelming. When I was able to come back to you, you had already gone through so much I wasn't sure how to approach it with you, so I thought I could start by having you to get to know me."
"So, am I like a charity case?" She asks, folding her arms. Staring into her warm eyes, they showed a hint of fear.
"I've seen the things you have gone through and at first I thought that I was failing my orders, and I truly wanted to help you, protect you, then as I got near you, see you, hear your voice, touch you, I started to fall in love with you. I never thought that would be possible. Your strength, your heart, the powerful, smart, clever, woman you have become is what has got me falling for you with every fiber in my body. I cannot stay away from you, you are all I thought about while I was gone the last few days. I missed you so much." I leaned and kissed her lips, just brushing against them. I hear her suck in a deep breath. She leans in closer, pressing harder. I lick her bottom lip lightly with the tip of my tongue. I could taste her Komi-pow and rice, I slipped her over to me and lifted her into my lap. I let one hand linger on her bottom, grasping it slowly. If I want to, she is wearing sweats I could just easily slip them off. "You should finish your food. I know you have more questions." She flushes a light pink and tries to move back to her own seat. I pull her back.
"I thought you said I needed to eat." She laughs. I smiled, kissing her neck,
"Yes, but I never said anything about moving." Her body tenses. I reached for her plate and moved it close, so she can eat it right here. "I told you I missed you. I am not letting you out of my arms. Just eat right here so I can hold you." I mutter, leaning my head on her back. She tries to move, to turn, but I keep her still. "Just eat love." I say in a hushed tone.
"I would, but it is kind of uncomfortable to eat in this position." Her voice was also low. I release her a little. She took the chance and moved slightly, looking into my eyes. She was stunning. Slowly she leans in, peaking at my lips, and then turns to her food and continues to eat. After she finishes, we both get up, and I take the dishes to the sink and start to wash them. She hops on the counter next to the sink,
"Did my mother know what you are?" I shook my head.
"What is hel... I mean the underworld like?" She starts to unwrap the candy I gave her earlier.
"It's dark most of the time, we don't actually have a sun but more of a moon. When it's night, the place becomes a purple hue like the actual moon of our world. There are houses, shops, malls, but most of us have wings, so we fly, of course." I smile at her, she has a big smile on her face,
"Really? So, no road?" I shook my head, giving it real thought to the layout of my home.
"Not many." She took a bite. Her eyes grow twice their size as she stares at me in disbelief.
"This is so good!" I feel my lips rise on their own, she is just too cute. I dried my hands and moved in front of her,
"Is it?" I said, leaning in and kissing her lips, lightly licking them before moving back. She flushes hard and nods. "It really is." I lick my lips slowly. I watch as her eyes fixate on them. Her breathing slows as she watches my tongue. I plant a hard kiss taking her in my arms. She puts the candy down on the counter, her legs wrap themselves around my waist. I pick her up, and we move to the couch. I slowly kissed her up and down her neck. I listen as she moans softly in my ear. I stop the kissing when we get to the couch,
"Next question?" I asked. She blinks, her eyes focusing.
"I forgot." She mutters, moving back so she can kiss me. I laugh softly against her lips but don't break away. She snakes her fingers through my hair, pulling me closer. Her mouth opens slightly, taking mine with hers, slowly and torturously moving her tongue and body. I feel my mind melting with the pure sensation of her skin touching mine, of her moans being the only thing I can hear, her touch the only thing I am craving at the moment. Without thinking, I took her and lay her on the cushions in my unhuman speed. She gasps. I don't stop. I kissed her again, this time starting with her mouth trailing down her jaw, her neck inching her shirt up. Dear god, she is sweeter than any candy, I think. Her touch alone is sending me into a frenzy.
