Chapter Sixteen

Aria stirred. Her head felt light, but also pounded, which was strange. She hadn’t drunk anything. Why then did she feel like she had a hangover? And why was she lying on the floor? She turned her head and came face to face with a rat. Letting out a screech, she rolled away and onto her knees, stumbling away before awkwardly falling against the wall. The rodent hardly seemed to blink before scurrying away. It was then she noticed she was in a cell. Cold, iron bars enclosed her on three sides. The fourth was a metal wall. The cells on either side contained several women, ranging from seventeen to thirty if she had to guess. All looked at her terrified and some gestured to her for silence. But why were they here? And where was here? She racked her brain, trying to recall what happened. A
