“So,” Aria said after a moment, “how have you been, really?”
Theo sighed, “Miserable.”
Aria blinked. She wasn’t sure if she should be surprised by his answer, but it certainly wasn’t one she expected.
“I missed you so much,” Theo continued.
“Then why didn’t you try to call me?” Aria whispered.
“Because I was stupid and stubborn. I’m the one who said it wasn’t going to work, and I didn’t think you’d want to talk to me again. I didn’t think you’d ever forgive me, and I was scared to hear what you would say.”
Aria silently picked at her food. Finally, she said, “Did you mean what you said before, about spending the rest of your life trying to win me back?”
