Jack’s POV The training session was grueling, but I needed it. Sweat poured down my face as I worked through the drills, pushing harder than I needed to. My teammates joked and laughed as the practice wrapped up, but I couldn’t join them. My head wasn’t in the game—it hadn’t been since I came back to this town. “Good session, Captain,” one of the younger players said, clapping me on the shoulder. “Yeah,” I replied absently, forcing a nod. I grabbed my water bottle and towel, trying to shake off the thoughts that had been gnawing at me for days.
