Merlin's nostrils engulfed the delicate hint of vanilla in the air, and with it his brain flooded with pictures of her. Her face just as pretty as the first day he saw her, her eyes twinkling with laughter and her teeth glistening as she smiled. So much time had passed since then, and all Merlin had left of her was the hope that one day she would come to believe in him like he believed in his own feelings for her. He missed the sound of her voice and the touch of her skin and the laughter that could light up the entire room in an instant. His chest ached as he thought of what he had lost. He missed Autumn terribly. He felt that without her the life he was leading actually had no meaning at all. My life was sweet like gingerbread but now there's a cookie cutter hole right in the centre.
