Fifty Alphas stood in a perfect line at the center, each one bathed in the golden flood of spotlights. Marble pillars gleamed under the high dome, and the air vibrated with anticipation.
At the grand podium, the announcer leaned forward with a grin so wide it seemed painted on, his glittering coat catching every shard of light. His voice boomed through the enchanted amplifiers, rich and theatrical, the kind of voice that could make a funeral sound like a celebration.
“WELCOME, one and all, to the legendary Alpha Trials!” His words rolled like thunder and silk all at once. The crowd erupted, stomping and clapping until the marble trembled beneath our feet.
