Chapter 70 Vanya Kross stood by the bed, slipping his shirt on, muscles taut and jaw clenched like he was bracing for a war. I sat on the edge of my side, pretending to focus on tying my boots, but my eyes kept flicking toward him. He was getting ready. “How are you planning to sneak out of the walls?” I asked, unable to keep the edge of tension from my voice. “The day’s just started.” He looked at me—expression unreadable—and said nothing. Of course. Kross Steele never did explain himself. But I knew he had a way. A passage. An escape route built for someone like him. And it wasn’t just him. I needed to leave too. If both of us were absent, it wouldn’t go unnoticed. Kyle was already watching too closely. He would see through the cracks, and that was something I couldn’t afford.
