Megan checked her contacts on her phone but it's empty. She can't even remember a single contact number. Now she looks at her phone asking what's the point of having it? She put it back in her pocket and went towards the stairs. Maybe she's allowed to go there.
It's confusing that she's with her angel but she doesn't feel comfortable. His presence makes her want to cry all the time. That's how the overwhelming love that surrounds him. But it's a little scary for her. As if something very bad is about to happen.
She decided to take a step up from the stairs. Maybe she can use one of the rooms there. She doesn't feel tired but she just wants to have a place where she can be secluded. Gabrielle didn't even inform her where she could settle while waiting for her to ascend to heaven.
But it seems that this staircase is leading her to nowhere. She realized that she's been climbing up to every step. She should reach the top by now. When she checked downstairs, it's no longer visible. How long had she been climbing?
His sense of time doesn't apply in this place anymore. Everything seems to be an illusion and she can't gauge how far up she already went. Then she saw Gabrielle walking towards her. His expression changes from being peaceful to worried. Then he looks angry to see her now.
"Where do you think you're going?" He asked, blocking her way.
"I'm looking for a room where I can rest for a bit." She replied.
Gabrielle smirked and grabbed her wrist. They both walk on their way down. She gave him a puzzled look.
"Don't tell me I can't go upstairs either!" She snapped.
"Of course you can. But not yet!" He responded.
After a few moments, they are back in the living room again. Megan can't believe that Gabrielle has to control her every move.
"Why can't I get upstairs now?" She asked.
"You can't go up to heaven yet, Megan! Your heart is still beating." He casually said and sat on the couch.
"Does it mean that's the stairwell to heaven?" She asked.
"Yes, it is." He confirmed.
"Wow, I almost reached heaven!" She said smiling to herself.
Megan took a seat beside Gabrielle who moved far away from her. She ignored his gesture. He should be a little far from her. She doesn't want to feel emotional while just talking casually to him.
"Your human parents are making it harder. They don't want to let you go yet." He informed her.
"Is that the reason why you went upstairs?" She asked.
"Yes, and I have to report that you're already with me." He answered.
"This is boring! I can't go outside and I can't go upstairs. What else can I do?" She complained.
"You have to be patient while waiting and do nothing for now." He responded.
Megan looked at Gabrielle with her can't believe he's serious. He can't expect that she will just stay put in this living room and wait. Why is she even here?
"I think you've made a mistake of bringing me here. I'm not dead yet and I don't think my parents will let me go just like that!" She said.
"This is not a mistake. I need to get to you before the grim reaper. He might bring you to Lucifer if I didn't intervene." He explained.
"Why would Lucifer take me? I'm not a bad person. Plus you said I was an angel before. That means I'm fit for heaven!" She proudly informed him.
Gabrielle looks at her with a blank stare. But he looks like he's about to cry. Now she's worried that she might have said something bad again. Why are angels so sensitive?
"You're a kind person and a good angel. Until…"
"Until what?" She snapped curiously about what he was about to say.
"You don't have to know the past anymore. Just forget about everything. You should join me and our brothers and sisters to heaven soon!" He replied.
Megan can't get whatever he's trying to say. But all she knows is that she has a past. Lucifer gave her a hint about it. Gabrielle is also acting as if she committed something really bad for the devil to snatch her just like that.
"It's funny that everyone is a sibling in heaven. What if I fall in love with you? Is that even allowed? She asked him teasingly.
She didn't expect his reaction to her question. His kind eyes suddenly look angry and full of hatred. It seems that the angel looks mad at her for saying the word love. It's odd.
"Hey, I was just kidding! Gosh, you don't have a sense of humor! I don't know if you're sensitive about the L-word." She laughed but he remained quietly serious.
"I love you the most, Meg. But it seems it's not enough for you when you were still an angel." He answered with sadness in his voice.
Now she's the one who feels uncomfortable. But tried to reason out that angels don't talk like humans. Of course, he loves all the angels. They're all brothers and sisters.
"Wow, I never thought it would feel awkward! Do you say the same thing to everyone upstairs?" She tried to joke around to make the vibe a little bit lighter.
Gabrielle didn't respond but he looks as if he's lost in his thoughts. She can't help but form a theory in her head. If becoming human is her punishment, maybe it means that she fell in love with her fellow angel before. But it's not allowed in heaven because they are technically brothers and sisters.
Megan cannot feel the overwhelming love anymore when Gabrielle is around. Now she feels too much sadness surrounding her. Maybe because the angel is sad right now and she doesn't know how to console him. All she can do is to watch him shed some tears.
"Wait, are you crying?" She asked.
No reply from him but she just asked the obvious and felt bad for that. She knows that if she touches him, he might be mad at her again. But she can't help herself but hug him. Gabrielle looked at her with questioning eyes from her gesture.
"You look like you need a hug. I'm sorry if I reminded you of something." She explained and held him tighter.
"You haven't changed a bit, Meg. You're still the same angel I fell in love with!" Gabrielle whispered to her ear.
Megan ignores what he just said. Maybe he just missed her as an angel. It's really hard to deal with these celestial creatures. They think that they love everything. But what if he literally means that he's in love with her? She let go of Gabrielle as if she got burned with fire.
"You can't even remember me even if I visited you when you were younger as a human?" He asked, touching her cheek.
She tried to remember her childhood from her current life. It seems that it's now flowing in her mind. She keeps on seeing a white figure whenever she's alone from their house. The same thing keeps on happening whenever she's celebrating her birthday. She remembers being showered with flowers one time when she's really sad.
"That was you?" She asked feeling happy from realizing her paranormal experiences.
"Yes, that's all me. You even call me a ghost." He smiled at the thought.
At least he's smiling now but the sadness in his eyes seems to stay there. But she's not content with him smiling. She feels bad for his angel to feel sad. He is supposed to be happy and content. But maybe it's because he's not an ordinary angel. He's an archangel after all.
"I took up a paranormal course from college because of you! I really thought you were a ghost. Good to know that I'm being watched by an angel!" She exclaimed.
"You're very sensitive with my presence because you were an angel." He replied.
"So you're the one who set the fire when some kids were bullying me before? That was awesome!" She told him based on her memories.
"Angels can't create fire, Meg. That wasn't me!" He responded and looked stiff again.
"What? But you just said you were watching me!" She insisted.
"You're also sensitive from the presence of the devil. Most probably, that was Lucifer." He explained and looked sad again.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to remember that." She apologized looking at him intently.
This angel is the most broken one she ever laid eyes on. Well, he's the only angel that she can see aside from Lucifer who happens to be a fallen angel. She hates the feeling of him being suddenly sad because of what she just said.
"It's not your fault, Meg. Of course, you will remember him as well. He visited you multiple times as much as I did. But his visits may be more memorable because he's the devil after all." He explained and began staring at nothing again.
