Cole got a call from Megan's mother asking for his help. She blamed him for not saving their daughter from the accident. She even made him leave the hospital. He was so worried about her but there's nothing he can do. But now, Megan's mother reaches out to him. They want their daughter back but the doctors already gave up on her.
Megan is still on life support but she's now back to her parent's home. Cole was able to notify her apartment manager about the accident as well. He was able to take her things and place them in their lab. He's hoping that she will wake up soon so that they can continue with their research. Sally is gone as well after the accident happens. He doesn't know what happened but the machine seems to get activated without him noticing.
Maybe Megan's theory was right.
