Denae stumbled back when Zaid howled out in pain, falling onto his opposite side. There was blood all over his dark, gray fur and soon, instead of his fur, there was blood all over his skin.
He'd transformed back into his human form, eyes barely open…was…was he dying?
Was he badly hurt?
A sudden pain tore through Denae’s heart as she looked at him, just now realizing the depth of her actions. What had she done? How could she just stab him?
The branch was still stuck in his flesh, and blood did not only drip from the open wound but from the corner of his mouth as well.
A whimper…one that she could barely hear left his lips as she stepped towards him. “Z-Zaid?” she whispered.
Her heart froze when she got no response, nothing but hazy eyes that blinked blankly at her.
