“Is that man for real?!” I was coming down the stairs the following day when I heard that disbelieving exclaim of Aunt Beatrice. My steps faltered. Sandro was at the far end of the living room. I could see him from where I was and with a single nod, he encouraged me to step down. Everyone was in the dining room except for him. He knew I would be coming down by now and I planned to skip breakfast. He approached me at the end of the step but I lifted a hand to signal him that we were not ready to go yet.
