“You think she’s the f*****g threat?” Dominic’s voice was low abd thick. His eyes didn’t move. They didn’t need to. The way he said it alone made the air feel tight in their lungs. “She just put your f*****g ribs back together and you still have the balls to doubt her?”
Nobody answered.
Not Nico.
Not Matteo.
Not even Romano, who could barely breathe without his head wobbling like it was loose on his neck.
“Next time I’ll let you die.”
“Dom,” Nico’s voice rasped, broken but pushing through. “It’s not that f*****g easy for us.”
He coughed. Winced. But forced it out anyway.
“You don’t know what’s at stake.”
Matteo groaned from the floor, trying to lift his head. “Just try and understand us. Please.”
Dominic’s head tilted.
Slow.
Like a wolf hearing its prey breathe under the snow.
