Lucas's POV:
We get back to the palace as fast as possible. I run up the stairs with Charlotte close behind and we arrive at my parents' room. Makenna is standing outside the door crying, the maids are down the hall looking solemn.
"Are we too late?" I ask my sister.
"Mom's in there now," Makenna says quietly.
The door opens and my mother comes out into the hall and sees Charlotte and I standing there.
"He's asking for you," She says to me.
Charlotte squeezes my hand. "I'll be right out here," she says.
"Both of you," my mother says.
I look at her and she just gestures to the door. I lead my wife into the dimly lit room and see my father lying in the large bed.
"Come here," he says. His voice is strained.
