After spending the night at their house, they drive me back to Matteo’s place early the next morning. None of us got any sleep, but there’s not really much I can do about that because I need to get to the house before the kids head off to school. For one, I don’t want them to be thrown off by my sudden absence. But the more selfish reason is that I’m hoping Matteo and everyone else will be easier to deal with when the kids are around. We get there with plenty of time to spare, but I’m still antsy as Gianna drives us through the community gates, worried that any moment someone is going to stop us and send us away, or do something worse.
