10. They can dance naked before people showing off their fakeness

"I-I never said that he was mine," I replied looking at her but the fear of being clawed at the face by Christine made me avert my gaze towards the table. She leaned in closer and grinned pleased, "good. Otherwise, I would have had to dirty my hands in your nobody's matters. You saved the trouble for both of us. At least, you aren't as dumb as someone else." Christine's eyes automatically landed at Lavinia beside me who was watching the entire thing in bewilderment. "What do you mean?" Lavinia seemed to have understood the gesture pointed towards her as stood up and almost yelled, "you think I am stupid?" "It's not about what I think, it's about what you are. Now you both can leave this table. I would like to have a private chat with my friends," Christine waved her hand as if trying to shoo us away while her friends laughed at it. Lavinia had lost her temper, I could see that and before she did something stupid in the heat of the moment, I pulled her away from there. "What in the hell do they think of themselves?" Lavinia was exclaiming but I didn't pay much attention to her. What bothered me more was what did the Adonides think about it? I tried seeking a glance at their table and found all the three of them sat back with their arms crossed across their chest as they stared in my way. Been caught off guard, I averted my gaze only to end up looking around the cafeteria. It was only then that I realised that the entire cafeteria had been watching what was happening. Lavinia beside me was continuing her little fire spitting while the blood from my body flushed into my cheeks. "Stop it, Lavinia! Everyone is watching," I hissed under my breath for her to hear but she went on and on with her vocabulary of profanities. "You are nothing but plastic monsters who has every part of them fixed, so that they can dance naked before people showing off their fakeness," her voice held all the hatred she had for them. "I am going, stay if you want," I said loud enough for her to receive the information as I looked at the ground, not meeting anyone's eyes. When Lavinia didn't show any signs of stopping with her ranting, I adjusted the strap of my bag over my shoulder before taking off towards the exit of the cafeteria. "Wait! Carlene!" I heard Lavinia's voice call out but also heard Christine's and her clones' laughter echo in the silent cafeteria. Pushing the doors open, I walked to the empty side of the school. The cold wind hit my skin raising the goosebumps. I continued to walk, randomly without a direction. All I needed at the moment was to get away from there. Away from Christine and people like her. Away from Lavinia and her swears. Away from the reason of this entire situation, West. I came to a stop by the untouched part of the school which still needed to be renovated. Long time ago this part of school had been destroyed due to a seismic sea wave. Due to lack of proper funding, this part of the school was left untouched for future purpose. "I had thought you were stronger than that," I jumped at the sound of the deep melodious voice. It was as if someone sang that rather than say it. I whipped around to find light from mobile illuminating Kai who was sitting up on a halfway fallen beam of concrete and rods. He was staring at the screen as he kept tapping on it, like he was playing another one of his games. "But I was wrong," he added as he went back to playing. His red hair looked purple in the mobile light. "When did you get here?" I asked him feeling puzzled. He was in the cafeteria when I sneaked a peek at his table but he was here now. "A lot of drama was going on back there. Not my cup of tea," he answered without looking up from his screen. I silently agreed with him. It indeed was a lot of drama than I was used to. I sat down on a fallen pillar and looked at the cobwebs that covered the entire place. A stray beam of light escaped into the darkness from the gap between the broken wooden board. People could easily shoot a horror movie in this place. For a moment, I felt completely alone but then I remembered Kai who was still very engrossed in his mobile game. The silence stretched between us but it wasn't the awkward kind of silence. I simply stayed there mulling over my thoughts. We sat like that till the bell rang in distance, alerting us the end of the lunch break. I watched Kai jump off the beam and dust off his clothes making me mirror it. "Thanks," I broke the long silence that had dwelled between us. He tilted his head and observed me like he was waiting for an explanation. "Even though I was lonely, I didn't feel alone and left out because of you," I adjusted the strap of my bag as I supplied him with an explanation. The end of his lips curled up a bit, making a ghost of a smile appear, "if we weren't from two different world, we might just have gotten along well." My eyebrows shot up at his words. Did he just say that? Did Kai Barbosa really say that? To me? Without saying anything else, he turned around and sauntered out of here. I waited till he was out of sight before walking out of this place. People didn't even turn my way. Everyone had been back to themselves, completely forgetting the free show that they had watched during lunch. Without spending another thought, I headed towards my locker. Unintentionally, I heard the two girls who were standing beside talk. The girl who I recognised to be Lyla, my locker neighbour said, "he is going be in the school after such a long time!" "Yeah, after the incident at his house, Louis was busy with the investigation and all those stuff. His popularity had a hike after that, so did the fingers raised at him," Lyla's best friend Nikki added astutely. "Still his fandom have only been increasing. Even now that he's sitting inside principal's chambers, half of the school's population is waiting for him outside," Lyla giggled closing her locker and turning around to head the other way with Nikki tailing behind her. So, because Louis was here, people forget about everything else and ran after him... I didn't know why but felt grateful to him for no particular reason. At least my life was back to normal, for now. Lavinia didn't come running to me, yet. It only meant one thing: she was one among the crowd waiting for Louis. Or perhaps the one standing first in the group to get a glance of her most favourite rockstar. Not that I had any complaints against her. Because I knew how crazy she was for him. Louis was another name for her life, without which she would die after withering like a dried leaf. The short warning bell went off making me quickly pick my books for the next period and shut my locker close before turning towards the direction of my next class. But instead of walking towards it, I couldn't help but stop and watch the crowd of students walking towards me bustling with energy. And the one they were following was none other than the most beloved rockstar himself: Louis Herring.
