“Mom, I’m home!” I called out, kicking off my shoes as I stepped inside the house. The familiar scent of home enveloped me, but when silence greeted me instead of her usual response, I felt a twinge of concern. I quickly made my way to my mother’s room to check on her. There she was, nestled in her bed, her chest rising and falling with laboured breaths. A wave of relief washed over me as I realized she was still resting. I let out a soft sigh and tiptoed out of the room, deciding to take a quick shower to refresh myself. After rinsing off and slipping into clean clothes, I returned to her side.
