Taylor stared up at the ceiling in Garrett's room in silent contemplation as he listened to his friend’s soft breathing next to him. Neither one had conceded the matter about the bed, so now both of them were on the floor in sleeping bags, with the bed lying empty except for their scattered papers and textbooks. For the last few days, he and Garrett had studied every night until Garrett literally fell asleep with his nose in his book. Taylor enjoyed watching in bemusement as it played out each night. Every time, Garrett would read until very slowly his face lowered and lowered until it squished against his textbook as he fell sound asleep even while his mouth was still mumbling whatever it was he was supposed to be reading. Taylor would trade the textbook out from under Garrett’s head
