Paulo requested a shortened vacation from his Captain/Master Mariner as he doesn't feel his vacation in the Philippines for now. He needed to move on after learning that he can longer meet Ariane. He was totally lost. His plan of retiring early to give a grand wedding for Ariane will no longer happen even in the future.
He thought that perhaps it's their fate not to be together in this generation. He just wished that maybe in the next generation, they will be reborn to be together for real. The sorrow in his eyes is very visible as he hadn't had his good nights of sleep. He wiped off a tear that was about to fall from his right eye.
