CHAPTER FOUR

NOLAN'S POV "I'm home!" I announced as I entered the house. "Welcome, young master." Kent, the butler greeted and I smiled at him. Aside from Landon, he's my best buddy in this house. I took off my backpack and gave it to him. "Landon isn't home but why I do I smell someone else here?" I asked as he passed me a glass of orange juice. "Young mistress is here, master Nolan." "Rana is here?" "Yes, master Nolan." "Ugh!" My biggest nightmare has returned. My peaceful days in this house have come to an end. I walked up the stairs to my room, patting Kent on the back. I met her searching through my belongings, as I had expected. My father is an inquisitive person, but I've never met somebody as nosy as Rana. She's a lot worse than father. She's always all up in my business. I thought she'd never return after her trip to the United States, but she's back today, and she's returned to annoy the crap out of my existence.. "Oh look! It's my little bro." "What are you doing here, Rana?" I asked as I snatched my perfume from her grasp. She jumped on my bed and said, "What? Don't you miss me? I've been gone for almost three years, Nolan. A welcome hug would have been appreciated." "That would have been the case if your return was good news but no. Now, can you get out, please? You have your room and I have mine. This doesn't look anything like your trashy room." "I guess you haven't changed over the years. You're still the bratty Nolan I know." I hissed and pulled her away from my bed. She landed on her butt and I stifled my laughter. She stood back up with a grunt and pointed threateningly at me. "You're gonna pay for that." I stuck out my tongue and fell on my bed. Instead of her to leave, she came to sit beside me. I used my pillow to cover my head but she yanked it away. "Tell me, what has been happening for the past two years that I've been gone." "Nothing for you to worry about, thank you." "Are you still with that biker of yours?" I glared at her and her smile grew wider. "Oh my...you guys broke up?" "None of your f*****g business. Just f**k off." "I guess if I had told dad back then, it would just be a waste because you two were bound to break-up at last." She stood up and said, "Anyways, I have to unpack. I just got home." "You just got home and the first thing you do is to go through my stuff? Are you crazy? Who am I kidding? You've been crazy since I ever met you." "Blah blah blah. Boring words. I gotta go." "Yeah, see you never. Don't let the door hit you on your way out but I hope it does." She gave me a middle finger and I retorted by giving her two. She finally left my room and I breathed out in relief. That brat mustn't know I've finally found my mate or else the whole family is gonna know. I picked up my phone and decided to scroll through my gallery. I continued scrolling until I got to my mum's picture. I sat up as I gazed at it. "I miss you, mum." I sniffed as I wiped the ball of tear from my cheeks. My mother's death when I was fourteen years old was the worst thing that had ever occurred to me. That day, she went on a trip and, for the first time, she told her bodyguards not to follow her. She was assassinated right in her hotel room. It was already late when the criminals were discovered. Her death had a psychological effect on me, and I went down for over a year. My mother has always been the only one who understands me. Back when I was twelve, when I didn't know what was happening to me, I told my mum I was attracted to a boy in my class. I cried that day, thinking it was a weird and bad thing. I thought something was wrong with me but my mum told me it was normal. She said it was nothing to be afraid of and I should do what made me happy. She gave me the confidence to do what I really wanted. She didn't discard or blow up in my face like my father did. Too bad she isn't here right now to see my mate. I really miss her. "Nolan, are you okay?" I heard Landon's voice and I quickly cleaned my face. I dropped my phone on the lamp stand and turned to him. "I'm good. When did you return?" "Just now." He replied as he walked to me. He sat beside me and asked, "Nolan, I've been at your door post for about a minute, watching you cry. Did something happen? Did your mate reject you?" Here he goes again, being a worrywart. "I'm fine, Landon." I said with a smile. "Fine. Just tell me when anything is bothering you." "You're being such a mum right now." He chuckled and lied down. "Rana is back." He said and I hissed "Yeah, unfortunately." "I don't want you guys to be on each other's throats, Nolan." "Staying away from her is my talent. The one who you should tell that is Rana. Tell her to stay away from me and my business. I don't know why she's such a pest." "She's your elder sister you know?" "So? Landon, that chic is an animal! She's older than I am with two good years but she acts like a kid. I'm more mature than she is." "I can see that." "Is that sarcasm I hear in your voice?" "I never said anything, alpha. So tell me, how is your mate matter?" "Rough." "Tell me about it." "Well... *** THE NEXT DAY LEVI'S POV "Levi, Levi! Levi!" I snapped my eyes open, breathing heavily. I looked around and realized it was Xander who just woke me up. I looked down at my body. I was really sweaty and my heart was beating wildly. I was visibly shaken up and I felt so scared. My hand was clutching tightly to Xander's shirt. I let him go and I sat up, trying to regulate my breathing. "Another nightmare?" I nodded and he sighed in frustration. He went out and came back after few minutes with a glass of water in his hand. He passed it to me and I chugged the whole content. "Levi, I think it's time you... "I think we've been over this, Xander." I said as I got off my bed. "No, we haven't. Look at you! Every night you go through this and I can't bare watching again, Levi. There's a professional therapist at my hospital, I can... "Xander, listen." I held both of his shoulders and looked into his eyes. "I understand you but you have to understand me too." "But... "Don't you think I've tried?" I let go of his shoulders and walked to my closet. "I've tried, Xander. It doesn't work. It never will. Going to another will only be a waste of time and money." "This one might be different. I've seen this lady work. She can fix you and.. "I don't need fixing!" I fired. "I don't need anyone. I'm f*****g alright, just leave me alone, goddammit!" I left his presence and went to the bathroom, slamming the door behind me. I got into the bathtub with my clothes still on. I leaned back in deep thought. Why can't he understand? I'm okay. I never said I needed help. XANDER'S POV I sat motionless on the bed, staring blankly at the bathroom door. Levi just yelled at me, and as usual, I'm going to let him off the hook. I've always had a soft spot for him from the first time I saw him at the orphanage thirteen years ago. I had only come to the orphanage that day for a medical visit with one of the staff, but I felt compelled to approach a youngster sitting alone on a bench for no apparent reason. That faithful day, I adopted him right there. It was quite difficult to communicate with Levi. We never had a proper conversation for the first eight months we lived together. He just repeated the same routine: wake up, eat, look at nothing for the rest of the day, and then go back to sleep. He never smiled or emoted in any way. He resembled a lifeless doll. I tried every trick in the book. I attempted to be amusing, and I spoke to him even though he didn't respond. I didn't give up, and my perseverance paid off in the end. He gradually opened up to me, but not completely. Our friendship improved when we began to converse more. Levi is a gorgeous young man, but his heart is filled with hatred. Hatred directed at himself. He believes that he does not require the presence of others in his life. He seeks solace in solitude. "Xander?" I turned my head to the side and smiled at him. He sighed and came to join me on the couch. I took off my glasses and closed the novel in my hand. "Yeah?" "Um...I uh...Xander I... If there's one thing Levi is bad at, it's saying sorry. I shook my head and ruffled his hair. Shoot! I forgot he hates that. "It's okay. I made you breakfast. Hurry, it's 8a.m. You're gonna be late." He nodded and went to the kitchen. Oh Levi! w Who exactly is gonna pull you out of your blue and grey shell? LEVI'S POV "Leader!" I hastened my steps when I heard his annoying voice. I slowed down when I couldn't hear his voice again. "Good morning!" He jumped on me, hanging his arm round my neck. I got so irritated that goosebumps rose on my body. I yanked his arm away and dusted my body. "What?" I snapped. "I just came to greet you good morning." "Never asked you to do that. And can you please unwrap your arm from mine?" He did as he was told and I walked further. "So what's your schedule for today, leader?" He asked as he hastened his steps, trying to keep up with me. I stopped on my tracks and turned to face him. "Do I really have to spell it out for you? I don't like your company." "Sheesh! You really have the worst personality ever. You should be glad someone is even trying to be your friend. No one would want to associate with a person like you." "I never asked for any one to associate with me." I ignored him even though we went the same way. I got to the front of my lecture hall and I paused at the door. "Why are you still following me?" "Following you? I'm just going for my lecture." No freaking way! I'm in the same major with this guy? This just got worse. "Oh my...don't tell me you're taking this lecture too." I eyed him menacingly and went into the lecture room. I took an empty seat and the pest sat beside me. "I only have one rule." I said. "And that is?" "Don't talk to me, don't touch me, mind your business." "Those were three rules." "Glad you know." I took out my lecture notes and textbook. I searched my bag for my pen but I couldn't find it. Jeez! I must have left it at home. I groaned and felt a tap on my shoulder. "I said don't touch me." "Here." He stretched me a pen. "You don't have one, do you?" I stared at the pen in his hand and contemplated whether to collect it or not. "Come on! My arm is hurting." I snatched it from him and I heard him chuckle. "A simple thank you would do." "Don't talk to me." I looked ahead and my gaze met with Akira's. He adverted his gaze when our eyes met. Why was he looking at my direction in the first place? The professor finally came in and I sat upright, ready to gain whatever she had for us today. The lesson was going fine until Nolan broke my number one rule. "Leader, do you have an highlighter?" I banged my textbook close in anger and closed my eyes. There are no empty seats, I would have changed my seat. I ignored him and paid attention to the professor. I hope this lecture ends without me beating up this guy.
