Chapter - Nine

Devil's POV I spun the paperweight on my table as I stared at it’s colour change. I turned towards the door as I heard a knock. “Get in” my husky voice echoed through my room as Nolan came in. “Boss, we have received the news that Jack died in the prison last night” he informed without making an eye contact. “Oh, reason of death?” “He was poisoned boss” “Hmm, you can leave now” he nodded and left the room. I grabbed a cigar from the cigar case and lit it with the lighter. I smirked while blowing sweet smoke into the cool air since everything worked out just as I planned. It has been said that the love of money is the root of all evil, but what’s life without money? There are many people out there to act noble by denying the fact that money is the ultimate happiness, but they all are just double faced bastards who are acting fake just to appear good in the eyes of society. Everyone’s deep desire is to be filthy rich and enjoy their life. Everyone has their own ways to get rich but a criminal masterminds like me choose the shortest path. Even I was a normal employee, who just used to concentrate on his usual job. But after few days, I realised that there were different options to earn more money in my job, even if it meant to do something illegal. I was pretty happy with the extra income which I earned without any regrets. But once I got to know about this savant syndrome, I realised how I could use these savants to my advantage and hit the jackpot! At the end of the day, it’s all about being selfish and fulfilling our own needs. I planned these kidnaps smartly so that we wouldn’t leave any clues behind which could get us into trouble. But I did face hard time while choosing loyal guys to work under me. Yeh, even the criminals struggle while choosing their teammates, because it’s hard to find loyal ones, whether it’s for a good or a bad cause. So I did consume a lot of time to plan and form a strong team before executing such a huge plan. I specifically chose the ones with no criminal records, so that even if they are caught much details won’t be revealed about them. Few immediately accepted my offer since they were impressed by my idea, but few denied because they wanted to work with me as a partner rather than working under me. I had my own ways to get my job done when they didn’t agree. I just had to know their weaknesses and use them to my advantage. They highly underestimated me initially, but now they have realised my potential and wit, so they can’t trick me and escape easily. But still there were few people who could be trusted blindly and one of them was Jack. That’s the reason why I assigned him to kidnap Dexter and his teammates. He was one of the smart ones and could manage if there was any sudden change in plans too. So I made this plan to kidnap one of their teammates when they are at home, since it would be hard once they reached headquarters. And the easy one to abduct in their team was Stella. Once their team realized that she was kidnapped, they rushed to her home to find any clues. In the meantime, Jack messed up with Dexter’s car engine so that it would stop in the middle of their journey after few minutes. He added a sedative in aerosol form and closed the hood of the car. As per plan, they followed Dexter's car until it stopped suddenly. Then Mason got down to check with the engine. As he opened the hood of the car he inhaled the sedative unknowingly and fell unconscious after few seconds. As Dexter went to wake him up Jack hit on his head and knocked him out. Even though I hate you because you are so desperate to arrest me, but still I admire your skills and of course your impressive track record. That’s why I planned this kidnap to give you an offer, so that you could be a part of my team. How perfect it would have been if you had joined hands with a mastermind like me, we could have done so much together and we would be unstoppable. But sadly you denied the offer, even when Jack threatened you of killing both you and Stella. Even if you would have accepted the offer to save Stella’s life, I’m pretty sure you would have tried to trick me into surrendering myself or collecting some solid evidence against me while acting like my partner. I'm not so dumb to ignore your smartness. I expected you to accept the offer for the sake of money which you could earn easily and enjoy, rather than for saving someone’s life. I only trust people who work for themselves and not for others, because they can change their intentions based on for whom they are working, but selfish people only earn for themselves. As per my plan, I expected at least three of them to be in his car, but unfortunately only two were there. That’s the reason why they escaped so quickly, or else they would be working under me or dead by now. They were lucky enough to get split into teams at the right time. Anyways, you shouldn’t trust anyone completely in spite of however smart or reliable they are, that’s why I had a plan B if there was a chance of Jack getting caught. Once I realised that only two were kidnapped, I expected other teammates to come in search of them. It just took few drops of a slow poison in Jack's lunch to get rid of any evidences to be left behind. I trusted Jack and I was damn sure that he wouldn’t reveal anything about me, but I should take my own precautions so that I won’t be caught. I thought they would use the truth serum test confidentially since they eagerly want to catch me, but turns out that they are very sincere and won’t break any rules. I should admit Dexter that your teammates are just as smart and quick as you. You are lucky to have an amazing team like that, but that doesn’t mean that you can catch me so easily, because I’m always a step ahead of you. I'm always keeping an eye on each and every one of you, I can predict your moves and plan accordingly. I was slightly worried when it was announced that a special officer was appointed to deal with Jeanine's case. I had very high expectations about your deductive skills, but turns out that you are smart but not as much as I thought. One case, just one Jeanine’s case changed everything. He realized that the kidnaps which were least bothered by the department, since they couldn’t find any evidences, were actually linked together and were executed by one mastermind. He even got to know that I kidnapped only savants, but still doesn’t know my motto behind of all this and can never find out. I purposely made Jack beat you guys up, so that you would be bedridden for few days and of course to warn you guys to give up on this case. I have already given you two options Dexter, one is to work with me and enjoy being filthy rich, two is to leave this case right now and save your lives. Choice is yours. But if you end up being stubborn and continue to investigate this case further, you'll have to face serious consequences. So in the end you are going to decide the fate of your teammates and yours.
