I bit the inside of my lip. I half expected Hunter to come back and announce the news that he had gotten engaged to Sandra. I knew it was inevitable. He had promised Lionel after all and I knew that Lionel had given him a ring to propose with. As I sat in the living room with my father, Lionel sat there, looking quite serene, Joyce hovering nearby in case she was needed. My father's eyes sparkled at me. "How is your relationship with Mason going?"
I hesitated. Did I pretend that everything was fine and said the words that Lionel wanted to hear? He was dying, I didn't want to burden him with the truth but at the same time, I wondered how he couldn't read the expression on my face.
