The room Reese directed me into was cold. She had me wait several hours on a chair, but I was provided with a comfy blanket, a cup of warm coffee, and meals for both lunch and dinner. Throughout that time, my heart raced, and I felt edgy and frightened.
Despite my heated situation, I couldn't get over the wonder of the kindness Reese showered me with this time, for it was foreign. I had never experienced anything close to it in all my time under her guidance. Right now, at some point, I was scared she had lost her mind. Reese had never shown such compassion to any of us, not even the younger girls half my age, who were more deserving of her affection.
