Adler swallowed his anger, sensing Darius was being genuine and turned to look at Jesse with a worried gaze that she might just say no.
Jesse looked from Darius to Adler and when their eyes met she smiled at him. She was so beautiful in that moment, he reached out and touched her cheek. She grabbed his hand and pulled it to her heart.
“I’m not sure if we will be safe being together or if it will end up putting a target on both our backs, but…” She paused and tilted her head, her fox ears coming out. Trey hissed in surprise and stepped back, closing his eyes for a moment as his fingers twitched to touch them. Adler growled low in his throat.
