SAMANTHA BITE her lower lip, twirling the tip of her hair averting her gaze back at the window, viewing the street side.
Not once had she heard his approaching footstep. He came in like a ghost, giving no signal for awareness.
"How long have you been there?" She murmured dreading the next word that were to come out from his mouth.
She was unable to hear his reply as Kenneth jovial voice interrupted their conversion, he round around the kitchen island frolicking happily.
"Dad has a surprise for you." He said, grinning widely with his finger linked together as she swell it by his side.
Samantha brow raise in question. "Really? You guys went shopping for me?" She asked feigning astonished as she caught sight on a box of cupcake engraved 'Freddy's cupcake' Nathaniel held on his hands.
Kenneth nod, his eye glittery. "Dad has it." He said, confirming Samantha's guess.
"Does he now?" She said accusingly glance at him briefly from the side of her eyes. He nodded again running toward his dad grabbing the outstretch cookies box which he handed over to Samantha. "Well thank you." She appreciated taking the box from his little hands. "But you don't expect me to eat this alone. Do you?" She asked after opening it up to reveal six strawberry cupcakes.
The little boy sheepishly smiled with one side of his eyes "No?" He answered in a question way.
"That right but we won't eat it all. With that sweet tooth yours you're bond to eat a lot. Now go wash your hands and a cupcake will be waiting for you." Not waiting much time he dashed up the stairs.
Samantha smiled at the little his energy, turning to pick out a paper plate Nathaniel choose to continue where they had stopped from.
He cleared his throat to capture her attention. "So, about that date. I think it's best you go."
She ignored him placing the paper plate on the island, putting a cupcake on it Nathaniel's hand held hers.
Samantha froze for a moment at the sudden unexpected action.
"Sorry I-" He paused not knowing what to say, as he h nervously gaze around the room.
Nathaniel nervous? That was a first.
Samantha sigh. "Were you eavesdropping into my conversation a while ago?"
He shrug looking guilty. "I couldn't help but listen." He said "See aside from eavesdropping. I think it's a perfect idea if you go out on a date. Just explore, go out. I'm sure he's a wonderful guy." He persuade at his suggestion.
Samantha gaze intensely at him taking in his posture. He kept fidgeting from knee to knee, raking his fingers through his hair.
She doesn't need a genius to explain the cause of his mood. Somehow in a weird way Samantha could openly read him.
"I know what you're doing."
Appearing confused his brow knitted. "What am I doing?"
Samantha head over the sink resting her back on it, still piercing her judgmental eyes at him. "You're looking for a way to get rid of me."
He kept silent casting his gaze down, as he put a stamp at her guess.
She should have known better than to feel relax. After all the almighty Nathaniel Carter never—I mean never accept help from anyone. It runs in his DNA.
"I should have known." She angrily respond turn her back to him, pick up the half filled glass of water she left a while ago drinking from it with a clench fist.
"No it isn't what you think." He defended his statement trying to head towards her but the glare she shot at him put him to a stop.
"Where's Olivia?"
Nathaniel paused for a moment gazing at her with plead written all over his eyes. He sigh when she made no more argument. "At the living room. In the cradle taking a nap." She nodded not wanting to discuss anymore with him.
"Sam I'm not-" He cut short as Kenneth heavy footstep echoed towards them.
"I've washed my hands. See." He stenched his hands for her to see.
Samantha softly smiled at him. "Here you go." She lifted him up on the high stool, putting him on the high stool.

HELPING HIMSELF with a full spoon of lasagna. Nathaniel savour the taste, chewing it with delight. All thanks to Samantha's cooking skills.
Who by the way wasn't giving him any bit of her attention, as she focus her attention on the kids.
He hadn't meant to eavesdrop into her conversion, to whoever it was she spoke to on the phone.
The cold shoulder kept pushing him to the extent of wanting to scream down the room—just to get a reaction out from her blank demeanor.
The heavy sound of his cutlery touch the China breakable plate echoed around the dinning room—as Nathaniel's stare refuse to waver from where she stood.
Finally after—forever Nathaniel got the privacy he had sorted out for. The children were finally laid in bed.
Nathaniel stood by the door side of Kenneth room waiting for Samantha to corner her. Trying to put a stop to her avoidance.
A melody voice caught his attention as he lean in to the ajar door, greeted with the sight of Samantha seated on edge of the small bed, singing to Kenneth.
An unexpected feeling ran straight through his heart as he took in the position they both were in.
A feeling of longing Nathaniel has never experienced flash through his body.
The dark twinkling light of the artificial stars at the roof of Kenneth room shun towards her chestnut hair making glitter in a strange golden way—giving her whole new review.
She looked—different.
Nathaniel cringe at his lame description on the beauty who sat by his son side—singing calmly to him.
At that point he saw her in a whole new light.
But what's new?
Samantha's stopped singing her lullaby snapping Nathaniel out from his brooding thought.
The heave a deep breath preparing himself for the coming conversion. Hoping for her cooperation, it was for both of their sakes.
Quietly she stepped out jumping in fright at his composed stance. Hushing her he gestured for her to follow him through the dark hallway.
A resigning expression flashed through her eyes but his pleading gaze stopped her from speaking out.
At the sigh coming from her lips Nathaniel smile in victory. He lead them both down the wide hallway straight to the corridor.
The calm soft breeze hit his skin, giving him a fresh breath if nature. As he welcome the quite Keptine street.
"What do you want to talk about?" Samantha's impatient voice spoke out.
"I think you're aware what it is."
"If you think I'm going to leave this house just to date some guy and live a life. Then you have a lot coming your way." She raging glare pierced his sanity.
Was that what she thought? He was going to send her packing?
"I'll never ask you to leave Samantha unless you want to. Don't you know how important you're to this household."
She rolled her eyes. "Yeah I know. So important that you need me to wash the ditches, cook the meals, wash the laundry, clean the house, watch over the-"
Nathaniel stride towards her holding her upper arms to snapped her out from whatever haze she was in deeply as tears ran down her cheeks.
Never had he expected just a simple conversion to turn out this way. Come on! How hard was it to give a suggestion after all he was the almighty Nathaniel—things like this shouldn't be hard to discuss.
But the present state of the young lady opposite him crumble whatever decision he had made since the beginning of the day.
Pulling her to him he hugged her—trying to offer a little comfort at the cause if his brunt attitude he had unknowingly portrayed.
Somehow she felt perfect in his arms—which scares him to the core.
"It was never about that Sam. You're more important than that. Can't you see you're the bond holding us all together—keeping everyone strong. Without you I-" He pause dreading her lack of presence. "-I'm doomed. We all a doomed to shatter. You're one of the strongest woman I've ever met."
Her sniffing and sobbed came out more, as she held onto him tightly. "I'm not strong." She argued back at him.
Nathaniel shook his head. "No you're. I know this is all hard on you. That why I suggested you go out and have a little fun. The guilt that I'm actually the selfish one here doing all those why you should pains me. Please Sam do this at least not for me but for your sake. Be selfish for once." He mutter on her hair rubbing her back gently.
Meanwhile offering comfort what Nathaniel never thought for once was in Samantha's term-—she was the selfish one among them.
