Surviving that ambush had only served to cement in Devon’s mind the thought that he needed to get himself out of active duty. He couldn’t remember how many times he found himself still mildly freaking out over the fact that he had managed to survive that encounter, his actions seeming like those of a completely different person. Even his superiors that he recounted the story to didn’t seem like they completely believed him, but he knew what he had done. The jeep he had driven up to the front gate corroborated at least half of his story, so he felt like he had that going for him.
