Forty-Nine Haven Haywood The car would  have to  be left behind. The crone chased us too fast, and too far. And then, to make matters worse, something  had hit me. One of the hexes or potions or charms or whatever else she had thrown at me had hit my wing. The pain was searing through me, and I could only fly so long. A cry escaped me, and I found myself falling, falling down to the ground. I could hear Ashden letting out a scream, and feel her gripping me tighter. Then, I was falling, and falling, and falling. We fell through trees, and I let out another sharp, cry of pain as a branch went through my wing. Then, finally, I landed with a hard thud on the ground.
