They tricked Octavia.
“What are you doing?” Octavia demanded. “You said that there weren’t going to hurt her! That you just wanted to make a deal for Haven. I brought the gold, honor the deal.”
“I lied,” said Clampett, smiling. He showed his teeth, half of which were missing, and the other half were gold. “I heard about the dragon. And I found a much higher bidder. Anu and I have done business on more than one occasion.”
“I told Clampett about the Little Princess and her runaway act as soon as it happened,” said Anu, “it was only a matter of time before we could find her. George tried to deter us, by leading us on a wild goose chase to Haywoods home. But I knew better. Sooner or later, she’d show up here in The Shadow Market. It was only a matter of time.”
