The source code was gone and he’d had to reconstruct the whole thing by trial and error. And now he was down to it. He reread the lines picturing what each would do to the routing information of clustered packets. Picturing a linear flow didn’t help. It had taken him weeks of conjecture and testing before he’d figured out it was three-dimensional. The data could jostle, bypass, even arrive in the wrong order and be put back together. But there was nothing to keep them from running into one another. There had to be something else. Was it four-dimensional?
