Chapter 40 Annalise Lucien lunged, and I barely managed to twist away, but the motion sent me sprawling onto the cold, unforgiving ground. My palms scraped against the dirt, but there was no time to feel the sting. His heavy paw slammed down on my chest, pinning me in place. My chest heaved as I panted, fear clawing its way up my throat. For a moment, I couldn’t move. Couldn’t think. And then I plunged my dagger into his side, through his thick fur and deep into muscle.
