Twenty-three: Rafferty O'Broin

1283 Words

Twenty-three: Rafferty O’ Broin     An unkindness.     It was not the first time that I had heard my brothers and I referred to as such. Or the men from The Raven Brothers. It was a phrase tossed around quite often. But to hear it from her lips, it was like she shot me. I hadn’t expected her to rejoice at the news of having been lied to. But I thought she would at least be happy to know the truth about Declan, that I hadn’t left her.     It didn’t matter.     She’d promised to marry me, and we were going to have a future together. I would make everything up to her. “I’m sorry you feel that way,” I told her, “but we’re going to have a life together, A chuisle. The life that I promised you back in Boston. I know you hate me now, but I’ll do whatever it takes to make it up to you.”
