Chapter 01: The Land of Happiness Is Now The Land of The Jerk

1060 Words
It was mid-summer, the month of February on the fourteenth. The sun is striking hot from the sky, but the way the sun’s rays reflect on his skin emphasizes his smooth texture, shining like a diamond. His pale skin turned semi-red from the long exposure under the sun as he was busy picking the sunflower that he will sell in a few hours from now. The life he lives in right now is far different from what he expected and hoped when he was eighteen. He dreamed about living in wealth, happiness with a complete family — things he never grew up with, but it was all just a dream. A dream that is nowhere near becoming a reality. Randy Caiden is now living in the secluded part of the city, where most of the people are low-key, living a simple life. He owns a small flower shop that helps him finance his daily needs. He lived in a house made of woods alone, and the rest of the five hundred meters of his premises lies beautifully grown flowers such as lilac, sunflower, daisies, and roses. Randy leaned closer to the new blooming rose, sniffling the aroma of the said flower. “Hmm,” he hummed in delight, closing his eyes, savoring the serenity and the beauty of nature he had in his backyard. A broad smile embroidered on his lips as soon as he opened his eyes. “The fertilizer did a great job,” roaming his eyes to the flowers around him as he spoke. Growing up in the orphan trains Randy to live his life independently. Although he found plenty of friends and sort of a new “family,” but Randy relies more on himself. Not because he’s mean, but because life taught him to be strong on his own. He picked the oval basket — which he handwoven, and resumed picking another batch of roses for the valentines order this day. While he was in the middle of picking roses, he heard a loud bang on the back door, making his head turn. To Randy’s surprise, he saw five bulky men carrying a shovel and sack. “W-Wait. W-What are you doing h-here?” he asked, stammering as he stepped closer to the men. “Let’s do it, boys,” one of the men said, which happened to be the leader. Randy’s life flashed before his eyes when the men started to dig the flowers out from where they used to grow. “Hey!” Randy yelled, clenching his fist into balls as he pushed the men one by one away from the flowers. “What on earth are you doing!?” he breathed heavily, staring sharply at the men. Their leader scratched the back of his head, clearing his throat as he speaks. “Our bad — I mean, my bad,” he paused, smiling awkwardly to Randy as he offered his left hand. “I’m Kenneth,” Randy stared at the porcelain teeth of the man before looking at Kenneth’s palm and took it. “I’m Randy,” annoyance is audible in his tone as they shook hands. “Sorry for the sudden intrusion Ms. Randy, but —” “Ms. Randy?” he scoffed. “Do I look like a girl to you?” Randy added, crossing his arm as he stared straight into Kenneth’s eyes with irritation. Kenneth’s mouth gaped open, examining Randy’s physique from head to foot. He thought that Randy is a lady based on his effeminate features plus the bun hairstyle of his hair. Kenneth’s team fell silent upon hearing Randy’s word. “I-I’m sorry, M-Mr. R-Randy,” Kenneth apologized with beads of sweat around his forehead, embarrassed of the commotion they made and misgendering Randy. Randy sighed in defeat. “Apology not accepted. Anyway, what’s with the sudden intrusion? Don’t you guys know that this is private property?” he asked, declaring facts as he owned this land, bought five years ago. Kenneth and his men looked at each other confusedly, murmuring as they share ideas of their frustration as what Randy said is far different from the memo they received. “P-Private property?” he asked. Randy nodded his head in response. “Hmm,” “But we just told earlier that he owns this place. A-And an intruder plants flowers on his property — which is you, Randy,” Kenneth explains as bewilderment drew all over his face. Randy’s eyebrows crossed in indignation. “Intruder!? Me? Intruder in my own property?” he scoffed. “I bet this is one of those scams or pranks I see on the internet,” shaking his head as he speaks. “All of you may leave now and never show your faces again before I call the cops and charge you with trespassing and malicious damage to property as you till the fertilized soil on my flowers. And not to mention that you dig them out to where they are supposed to be,” Randy kept his composure, but his temperament is as thin as a single strand of hair. The color of Kenneth’s face drained upon hearing the charges that Randy said. He swallowed a lump on his throat. “S-Sir, me and my men are sorry for what happened. But I-I can explain everything to you, Sir. We are just victims here,” “Victim of who?” Randy asked. The back door opened, and stood a man, wearing a suit and tie with eyes glaring sharply at Randy while blowing clouds of smoke of cigarette in the air. Kenneth and his men followed Randy’s eyes, and there they saw the man who hired them. “What took you so long, boys? Didn’t I make myself clear to eradicate all the garbages that this intruder planted on my property?” he smirked at Randy upon seeing the angry face of it. He loves to tease Randy just like before. He continued smoking, unbothered with Randy and the flowers dig out. Swiftly glancing to Kenneth and his team, commanding. “Go on. Destroy his flowers,” mean as it may sound, but he’s just testing Randy’s patience as he longs to hear Randy yelling his name for the last five years. “You jerk!” Randy exclaimed, making him grinned wider. “Oh! Randy, my love!”
