Chapter 1

1040 Words
Aubrey’s Pov: "Ms. Aubrey do you need anything else?" asked the barista as he writes down my name on the cup. "No. Thank you, Mark," I said as I smiled at him and walked towards my chosen table. I'm inside Bo's Coffee, currently sitting by the glass window with my books nicely stacked up on the table and my bag on top of it, preparing for an upcoming examination. My daily schedule includes going here and ordering my favorite coffee. I consider this as my 'hangout' place since I don't have any friends at school. I don't like to mingle and I consider myself an outcast of the society. I believe that people only befriend others as long as they can benefit from them. I hate it all. I pulled out my notebook and rummaged my bag for a pen and a highlighter. I really need to study now. I won’t be able to keep my grades if I slack like this. But then, the smell of roasting coffee beans and freshly baked breads wafted from the kitchen. I can’t help it and so I stopped writing and looked out the window. I could see the sun setting in the horizon and the long boulevard across the street, its warmth giving me comfort. The scenery outside and the atmosphere inside was so relaxing. This really is the perfect place to study. I continued admiring the view outside when I felt my phone vibrating. I fished it out of my pocket and saw Dad’s name flashing on the phone screen and tapped the answer button. "Hello, cupcake, I miss you!" said the guy on my phone. "Hi, Daddy! Please stop calling me cupcake, I'm already nineteen years old," I told him sounding like a frustrated teenager. "Aw cupcake... You know you'll always be my baby boo-boo," he said giggling on the other line. Seriously, why do I have a father who acts like a teenager? "Where's Mom?" I asked, changing the topic because I never liked cheesy lines. "Why are you looking for your mom when I'm the one calling you? You're so mean." He sounded disappointed. "Okay, fine. What do you want dad?" I asked bluntly. "You keep hurting my feelings. I just miss you, cupcake! Come home soon, alright? We miss you already.” Then I heard someone from the background. “Sir, the meeting will be starting in a few minutes.” “Oh! I got to go baby, I still have a meeting. I love you,” my father told me. "Goodbye dad, I love you too," I said as I ended the call. I badly miss my parents. We actually live in America but I'm staying here in the Philippines because I want to study here. I'm staying at a condo unit just near my school. I'm taking up Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Cebu Doctors University. One more year, and I will be graduating. I grew up here in Cebu but my parents moved to the US because of business. My dad owns a company and they’re both handling it. Since they need to focus on the business, they pretty much became busy and workaholics. I went back to reading my book. The door's small, vintage bell rang. I looked up and saw a guy entered. He was wearing a hoodie and a glasses. A little of his skin is showing with the uncovered parts. It was so fair it looks pale and I admit that he seemed handsome. He was tall, with chiseled jaws, well-trimmed thick eyebrows and red kissable lips. And to me, he definitely looked hot. He walked pass by me and straight towards the counter. I kept glancing at him, admiring his tall figure. I never had a boyfriend before because nobody notices me, and guys don't really like nerdy girls. I may be the daughter of some rich parents but I'm not like other girls who loves to dress up, go to salon and get pampered. I like myself the way I am. The guy took his order and turned around to exit the shop. He glanced at me and I averted my gaze as I realized I was openly staring at him. After I finished reading a chapter of my book, I packed up my things, went out the café and hurriedly walked to the direction of the parking lot. I was walking fast, rummaging my bag for car keys this time and not looking at the pathway when I hit something hard and fell on my butt, my elbows and arms bent, supporting my entire weight which made me dropped my books and glasses. The strap of my bag fell off from my right shoulder. "Ouch!" I complained as I cursed out of pain. I slowly tried to sit properly and reached out, searching for my glasses. "This can't be happening," I murmured as I kept on looking for my glasses. I have very poor eyesight and I swear, I’ll soon switch to using contact lens. "Finally!" I exclaimed as I found my glasses and immediately put them back on. After my vision got better, I saw that it was the guy at the café standing in front of me. I felt irritated. He never apologized and didn't even help me find my glasses. He was just standing there, gawking at me, staring intently. This guy’s just a pretty face. He’s not a gentleman at all. I picked up my books, stood up, shook off the dust from my clothes and fix the bag strap on my shoulder. I was about to say something to him when he cut me off. "Watch where you're going, Miss," he said and left. I stood there dumbfounded, gaping and speechless, looking at his back moving away from me until he disappeared out of my sight. What the heck? Unbelievable! I snapped out of it and rushed to get to my car still swearing at that guy! That night, I kept getting distracted by what happened earlier. I tried to focus on studying for the exams, but the events kept flashing in my mind. In the end, I pulled an all-nighter just to finish reviewing another chapter. He’s a total jerk!
