Chapter 3: Arlen's POV

2038 Palabras
“Mate!” Keila exclaimed as a pair of purple eyes connected with my turquoise ones. It should be a beautiful moment, the best day of my life in fact, but it wasn’t… My mate, the man who was supposed to be my other half and the love of my life, was kissing another woman who was sitting on his lap. I could endure that; he didn’t know me and had no idea who I was. I could have let that slide, but the bastard didn’t stop when he saw me. He continued kissing her. Do dragons don’t recognize their mate? “What is the meaning of this?! " a voice yelled. When I looked at the person who had spoken, I realized he was an older version of my mate. They both had dark, wavy hair, but my mate had chosen to keep it longer. It sat on his head, looking a bit messy but sexy. Sexy, yeah f*****g right. They both had purple eyes, which I had never seen before. My mate, however, had a chiseled jaw and looked fit, while this man leaned towards the fat side. This man must be his father, but I teleported to where the King was… No. No. No. No. No. It must be a joke. Yeah, I must have fallen asleep, and this is a nightmare. “WHO ARE YOU?!” Perhaps I was killed when I teleported; yeah, that sounds more plausible. “GUARDS, SEIZE HER!” How do I— Suddenly, someone grabbed me, and of course, I didn’t like it. “Get your f*****g hands OFF ME!” I growled and used my magic to push them away. The blast made the hands disappear as I continued to focus on my mate, who, of course, hadn’t stopped kissing the blonde on his lap. All while he stared at me. I felt the pain, the cheating pains, but I squared my shoulders, ready to tell this bastard to— “GUARDS! TAKE HER—“ “Would you shut up?” I said to the King. All his yelling was getting on my nerves. “WHO ARE YOU TO—“ “Okay, first thing, lower your tone, or I’m freezing your ass,” he was a dragon, so I supposed ice is their counterpart (?). Even if it isn’t, I have dark, light, fire, water, air, and earth magic. One of them should work. “Insolent brat,” he he exclaimed. Yeah, like I cared. I narrowed my eyes at the man, but he did the same to me. Hmm, so they aren’t affected by my aura. “You are trespassing; this could call out for a war,” that voice… that deep, husky, and manly voice belonged to me, mate. It was like music to my ears, as it made my heart flutter. I’ve never heard such a sexy voice before. “A war? I came here supposedly as a peace treaty, but I can teleport myself back home, no prob.” Our eyes connected, and for a second, I saw something in his eyes, but it was too quick for me to understand what it was. “You are the Lycan princess,” my mate said in recognition. That’s right, asshole, I am. “Yes, and according to our peace agreement, I suspect you are the fiancé,” I was not going to recognize him as my mate. Because of what he did, I wanted to reject him, but I felt that his father would use this to their advantage. I had to think carefully about what my next step would be, and in the meantime… there is always a spell that could help with the cheating pains. “This creature is your bride?” His father commented with disgust as his eyes roamed my body. Geez. “You were the one who asked for the peace treaty, not my family, so if you disrespect me one more time, I am declaring war and returning home.” “Is that a threat?” This time, my mate asked. I turned my gaze to him and glared at the man to then give him the fakest smile I could. “I don’t do threats, I do promises,” I said in a sweet and innocent tone. His purple eyes darkened for a second but then returned to normal. Why does it seem like he is fighting some time of inner battle? “We were expecting a leaner, taller, and more beautiful bride,” again, his father commented. “I was told she had a unique feature. One green eye and one blue one. Where is she?” “Mated and married,” they were talking about Lillian. “For years, by the way.” “We—“ “You asked for the eldest daughter, she was not available,” I said nonchalantly. “I’m the next in line, so either you treat me with respect, or I make sure you never forget who destroyed your kingdom.” The King scoffed as if I had told him the most hilarious joke ever. “We know your weakness, you are no threat to—“ “But I am, at least my family is.” I lowered my voice and let my aura slip. "Three of my brothers are kings, and one close friend is the Queen of Hell. We have the most powerful witches on our side, and everyone in my family has unique powers. " Finally, I saw what I wanted. Fear. “All you have is a stupid flower, but we have an antidote. How long do you think it would take us to kill you all?” I had gotten closer to the King, who only gulped in response. “That’s what I thought.” You could cut the tension in the room with a knife. I was not ready to back down, and it seemed that this King had never had someone defy him. I wonder where the Queen is? The silence in the room was deafening. I had no idea what I was waiting for. The King finally seemed unsure now; he didn’t look as confident as before. My mate, however, remained stoic, his purple eyes locked on me with an intensity that made my skin prickle. He still hadn’t moved the blonde off his lap, and the sight of her smug smile made my blood boil. But I refused to let it show. “You speak boldly for someone who stands alone in a foreign kingdom,” my mate finally said, his voice low and measured. His words were meant to intimidate, but I could hear the faintest hint of curiosity beneath them. “Alone?” I raised an eyebrow, my lips curling into a smirk. “Oh, sweetheart, I’m never alone. My family’s reach extends far beyond what you can imagine. And if you think for one second that I’m defenseless, you’re even more foolish than you look.” The blonde on his lap giggled, a high-pitched, grating sound that made my teeth clench. “She’s bluffing,” she purred, running a finger along my mate’s jaw. “Look at her. She’s just a little girl playing dress-up.” I didn’t even glance at her. Instead, I kept my eyes locked on my mate, waiting for his reaction. He didn’t disappoint. “Enough,” he said sharply, his voice cutting through the room like a whip. The blonde flinched, her smile faltering as she pulled her hand away. “Leave us.” “But, my prince—” she started, her voice dripping with false sweetness. “I said leave,” he repeated, his tone leaving no room for argument. The blonde shot me a venomous glare before sliding off his lap and strutting out of the room, her hips swaying exaggeratedly. I rolled my eyes. Subtle. Once she was gone, my mate stood, his towering frame imposing as he stepped closer to me. “I can handle it from here, father,” so he wants his father to leave as well. “Son, you know I can always—“ “I know,” he cut his father off. “I can handle it, father.” The thought of being alone with my mate excited but infuriated me at the same time. “Are you going to reject him?” Keila asked softly. “I wished I could, but you know as well as I do that I can’t,” I sighed. “Something doesn’t add up, though; perhaps we should give him some time to explain.” “And I will if he doesn’t f**k up again,” I grunted. Hearing the door close made me shake my thoughts away. My mate looked at me as his eyes darkened with what I thought was desire. “You’re not what I expected,” my mate said, his voice softer now, though no less intense. “And you’re exactly what I expected,” I shot back, crossing my arms over my chest. “Arrogant, disrespectful, and completely undeserving of the title ‘mate.’” His jaw tightened, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of guilt in his eyes. But it was gone as quickly as it appeared. “You don’t know me,” he said, his voice tinged with frustration. “Yeah, and I don’t want to either,” I replied snarkily. “If I am not rejecting you right here on the spot, it is because I value peace and don’t want senseless wars.” He opened his mouth to respond, but I cut him off. “But make no mistake, if you or your father disrespect me again, I won’t hesitate to show you exactly why my family is feared.” “You have no idea what our costumes are,” he replied nonchalantly. “Dragons usually have several women or men by their side.” Oh, he is trying to get me angry. Too bad I enjoy these games. “Perfect. Then perhaps I should find men for my harem as well. Your cousin looked like a great option.” I batted my eyelashes, and the look of jealousy on his face didn’t go unnoticed. Why did I like that? Finally, my mate spoke, his voice quieter than before. “You’re not what I expected,” he repeated, “but perhaps that’s not a bad thing.” I snorted. “Don’t flatter yourself. This isn’t some romantic fairytale. This is politics. And if you think for one second that I’ll let you walk all over me, you’re in for a rude awakening.” He took another step closer, his purple eyes searching mine. “And what if I don’t want to walk all over you?” I raised an eyebrow, my smirk returning. “Then maybe you’re not as stupid as you look.” The corner of his mouth twitched, almost as if he were fighting a smile. “You’re infuriating.” “And you’re insufferable,” I shot back. “But I guess we’ll have to make it work, won’t we? Even if that means each of us having a harem.” Again, I saw the same glint of jealousy in his eyes. However, before he took a step forward, I took one back and lifted my hand. My heart was pounding hard in my chest. I wanted to see what he would do next, but at the same time, I had to put some distance. “We are not having a harem,” he said lowly, sending a shiver down my spine. “Whatever you say,” I rolled my eyes. "I am going to prepare something for the cheating pains. Do you need some?” Why did I ask him? I should let him feel pain. “No need, you won’t be cheating on me, and I won’t be cheating on you.” I snorted. Yeah, right, like I believed that. This wasn’t the fairytale I’d dreamed of, but it was the hand I’d been dealt. And if there was one thing I knew, it was that I never backed down from a challenge. Let the games begin.
