The National Council of Churches and Synagogues hailed this as a major breakthrough of the century, and a reversal of the trend away from established faiths. “People have had their fill of the emotion–oriented cults that sprang up in the seventies and eighties,” said Rabbi Benjamin Green, co–chairman of the Council.
