Chapter 9 Divorce

Emily let out a cold laugh, her voice laced with anger. "You're just a mistress. What right do you have to push a divorce paper in my face?" Luna narrowed her eyes, unimpressed. "Oh? Still not had enough pain?" Thinking about how she'd lost her unborn child because of Luna's staged k********g, Emily clenched her fists so tight her nails dug into her palms. Luna wanted to stand proudly next to William? Fine. Emily wasn't going to let her have it easy. She glared at Luna with hatred, every word cutting like a knife. "What if everyone in City L finds out the great Miss Mitchell is actually a homewrecker..." Before Emily could finish, Luna stormed forward and slapped her hard across the face. "You dare threaten me?!" Luna snapped. Emily stumbled back, falling onto the hospital bed. But she pushed herself up and, without hesitation, slapped Luna right back with every bit of strength she had. "I won't sign it! As long as I'm still William's wife, you'll always be the side piece—hidden in the dark, shamed by everyone!" "You hit me?!" Luna stared at her in disbelief. "Fine! If you insist on suffering, I'll help you out!" She clapped her hands. "Get in here!" The door swung open, and two men in black entered. Emily recognized them instantly—they were William's men. Luna shot her a smug look. "William sent them to keep me safe. You really think I'd come here without his permission?" "Think about it, Emily. You've been in the hospital for half a month—has he visited once? Three years by his side and what did you get in return? Nothing but hate!" Emily's face turned pale; she couldn't say a word. Because every single thing Luna said was true. William had ordered her abuse. He hadn't shown up once since she was hospitalized. He didn't care about her. He didn't care about their baby. She'd always been the one hurt, manipulated... yet William protected the one who did it all. He even let the mistress throw divorce papers at her. Emily used to think she hadn't done anything wrong—but now, it hit her. She had made one huge mistake. Falling in love with William in the first place. Luna stared at her fallen opponent, her eyes gleaming with triumph. "This divorce agreement? You're signing it whether you want to or not." The two bodyguards stepped forward. One shoved a pen into Emily's hand while the other held out the paperwork, forcing her to sign. Emily couldn't break free. She looked up at Luna with pure anger. "Luna, if William ever finds out what you did, your downfall's going to be way worse than mine!" "He never will," Luna whispered darkly, gripping Emily's chin tight. "I'll make sure you never get the chance to come back from this." A chill ran through Emily's entire body. Luna's look was unhinged, but her words were frighteningly calm and serious. "Stop!" A deep voice cut through the tension—Benjamin walked in. He'd been waiting downstairs for too long and came up to check, only to find Luna bullying Emily right under his nose. "Benjamin? What are you doing back in town?" Luna gasped, startled enough to let go of Emily. In City L, only the Blackwood family could rival the Carters. Even the Mitchells had to step back. Luna wasn't stupid enough to go up against the heir of the Blackwood family. She gave Emily one last bitter look. "Emily, this isn't over." After Luna left, Emily and Benjamin gathered their things, ready to go when her phone suddenly rang. "Miss Thompson, bad news! Madam's in trouble!"
