A week later, William walked out of the hospital with little Lucas holding his hand.
"Daddy, where did mommy go?"
"Mommy got mad at daddy and went into hiding."
"Why is she mad at you?"
"Because daddy slept for too long."
Lucas nodded seriously, like a little grown-up. "Right! Mommy and I gave you so many kisses, but you didn't wake up. Mommy even cried... a lot. She thought I was asleep, but I saw everything."
William picked him up and held him close. "Daddy was wrong. I promise, I won't sleep that long ever again."
Lucas rubbed his little forehead against William's cheek and whispered, "Daddy, I love you, so you're not allowed to lie to me."
