Chapter 10 I don't want to see you

Five years had passed, but those harsh words didn't just scar Alexander — they'd been cutting through her too, all this time. Maybe it was karma for lying. She really thought they'd never cross paths again. Thought one day she'd just die in the ring, vanish into that dark abyss with no way out. But fate decided otherwise. When she finally saw a sliver of light from that pit, Lucy realized something — her feelings for him hadn't faded one bit. She unlocked her phone, scrolling down to his name. No clue if he'd changed his number or if it'd even connect. The bigger question — did she even have the right to call him? Neil noticed her hesitation. "Call him," he said, firm but gentle. Yeah… This was going to be her last fight anyway — maybe she deserved to be selfish just this once. Even if she knew it was wrong, after wandering so long in this emotional wasteland, all she wanted was to see him one last time before the end. Fueled by that mix of longing and despair, she dialed. It rang. Lucy's face lit up in that instant. Neil watched her eyes come alive, like a star had suddenly flickered to life in a sky that had been pitch-black forever. Just then, he realized — he was jealous of the man on the other end of that call. After a few dry rings, the call connected. Tears streamed down Lucy's face, silently. Her fingertips were trembling as she bit her lip, listening to the sound of his breath. "It's me, Lucy." No response, but she could feel him listening. She clutched the phone tight with both hands and went on, "Alexander, are you free now? Can we meet up?" There was desperation in her voice, but hope too. His breath quickened — like a storm about to break. Then his voice came through, cold and dripping with disdain. "Meet up? With you? What makes you think you deserve that?" "I…" Yeah. Who did she think she was? What right did she have? But this was the last thing she wished for before dying. "Can I just see you once, just this once? I swear I won't bother you again," she pleaded, her eyes locked on the air in front of her like it might answer back. "I don't want to see you." The words were like a slap. Harsh. Final. The spark in her eyes went out — replaced by a bitter smile. "Got it. Then… take care." She'd never begged him before, not when they were together, not even after the breakup. This was the first time. But even so, she got nothing from him. No warmth. Not even pity. He didn't want to see her. She should've known—Alexander wasn't the same man anymore. Now, all he felt for her was pure disgust. Lucy tilted her head up, forcing the tears back like she'd done a thousand times before, then casually tossed her phone onto the table. Maybe this was better. Even if he heard she was dead someday, he'd probably just sneer and say she brought it on herself — wouldn't waste a second being sad. She swallowed that dull ache in her chest, her gaze hardening. "Let's go. I made that call... I've got nothing left to regret."
