Chapter 5 Unwanted Wife, Unseen Mother

"You laid hands on Gina just because you didn't know she was pregnant?!" His hands gripped her shoulders tighter, jerking her frail body toward him, voice full of threat as he loomed over her. "Evelyn, don't think just 'cause we're in a hospital, I won't make you pay. I said it—if anything happens to Gina, I'll make you answer for it with your life." With her jaw aching from his grip, Evelyn still pushed back, her voice hoarse but stubborn. "She hit me first! Why is it you always believe her and never me?" That snapped something in Fabian. The fury hit him like a bomb, and for a flash, his bloodthirsty eyes locked onto her like death itself. He violently shoved her away. Evelyn staggered back a few steps, nearly toppling over, her shoulder feeling like it'd been yanked out of place. "Don't test me, Evelyn. You can't handle what'll happen if you do. Think your dead mom can rest easy...?" At that, her face went ghostly pale. Like he had dragged some dark memory out into the light. "Don't you touch my mother's grave, Fabian." "Then stay the hell out of my sight. Starting now." "But... I'm still your wife." And... I'm carrying your child. That last sentence got stuck in her throat. She wanted to say it. Really did. But she was too scared. Scared of what he'd do if he found out. So Evelyn bit her lip hard, forcing herself to stay silent. Fabian let out a mocking laugh. His cold gaze fixed on her as he spat each word like poison. "Wife? Just a label. Let me be crystal clear, Evelyn—I would never let you bear my kid. And even if you did, it wouldn't deserve to live." That hit her like falling into an endless pit of ice. She couldn't stop shivering. Just then, the operating room doors swung open. Fabian didn't even glance her way. He rushed straight to the door, grabbing Gina's hand gently. Evelyn stood there like someone frozen in time, watching as Fabian showed real care for someone else. Her heart felt like it had been sliced open, tossed in salt, and left to sting. The pain was enough to take her breath away. She let out a bitter laugh. He said she wasn't worthy of having his child. What a joke. A cruel, cutting joke. She wanted to laugh it off, but when she touched her cheeks, they were soaked in tears. Her mouth was so bitter, it felt like she'd swallowed pure grief. She slowly sank to the hospital floor, tucking in her knees like a lost kid who didn't know where to go. "Why? Why is this happening to me?" she whispered. "Baby... tell Mommy what to do..." The hallway was dead silent. Only the quiet sound of her muffled sobs filled the space. When Evelyn walked back into the villa, it was already past 8 p.m. The sudden brightness from the lights made her eyes sting as she kicked off her shoes and headed into the living room. "Finally decided to show up, huh?" A sharp voice, laced with disdain, jolted her the moment she walked in. Her head turned around, confused. On the couch sat a well-dressed woman, face full of pride and disapproval—it was Fabian's mother, Belinda. "Belinda, what are you doing here?" Evelyn forced a smile, head slightly lowered. Belinda raised her chin, her gaze ice-cold as she sized up Evelyn's messy state, clearly unimpressed. She snorted. "Where's Fabian?" Evelyn's lips trembled. "He hasn't come home." That answer wiped the patience off Belinda's face in an instant. She got up, anger flashing in her eyes. "Evelyn, you've done nothing for this family—no grandchild, no respect. And now you don't even care if Fabian comes home?" Faced with her sharp words, Evelyn said nothing. Her throat was too dry to speak, so she chose to stay silent.
