Emily watched in horror as William was swallowed by the raging flames, his voice hoarse as he shouted her name.
Her heart was about to explode. She tried to charge into the fire, but someone held her back so tightly she couldn't move.
"William!"
With a gasp, Emily jolted awake.
She was lying in an ambulance, two paramedics pressing her down. When they saw her wake up, they finally let go.
Tearing off the oxygen mask, she sat up and grabbed the nurse's uniform, her eyes brimming with panic. "Where is he? William—where is he? Is he okay?!"
"He's in a different ambulance. Don't worry, aside from the guy who planted the explosives, no one died on the spot."
Emily's arms fell limp. Her laugh caught in a sob, hard to tell if it was relief or grief. "Really?"
