"I don't even want a million—five hundred grand is enough."
Alexander was so furious when he heard her say that, he couldn't even form words. He didn't stop to think why she only asked for half a million.
Money. Money. And more money.
It's all she ever thinks about.
She was willing to strip just for a million?
Is there anything she wouldn't do for cash?
…
Ha… Five years ago, how could he have fallen so hard for someone like her?
His eyes burned with a mix of rage and disappointment.
With a sharp laugh, he snatched the check and slapped it hard across Lucy's face, leaving a red mark on her pale skin.
Lucy dropped her head, trying to hide the humiliation on her face. She crouched down and picked up the check from the floor, her voice low and strained.
"Thanks, Mr. Harris."
"Now that you've got your million, disappear. The farther the better. I don't ever want to see your face again."
Alexander turned his head away, refusing to spare her another glance. His voice was dripping with disgust. Without waiting for a reply, he slung his arm around Olivia and walked straight back into the private room.
Lucy's tears finally pushed through, fat drops falling one after another onto the check.
She stared at that piece of paper worth a million, feeling like her heart had been carved out.
She'd rather die in the ring than go through this kind of humiliation again.
Without wasting a second, she wiped her tears, clutched the money that could save a life, and rushed off toward the casino.
The chaos finally quieted down.
Back inside the private room, a few business partners sat around, but the vibe was tense and awkward.
As the host, Alexander didn't bother making small talk. He sat dead center, pouring himself drink after drink.
Olivia tentatively tugged at his sleeve and asked carefully, "Alex, are you upset?"
Why had he gotten so mad earlier, yet still stopped Lucy from going on stage?
Was it because he still hadn't let go of her?
Just the thought made Olivia's heart churn with mixed emotions, and her face fell a little.
Alexander slammed his glass down, forcing down the anger. "Why the hell would I be upset over someone like her?"
Hearing that, Olivia felt a tiny wave of relief, though her face still looked a bit conflicted.
"Don't be too hard on her, Alex… Maybe she's got her own reasons, stuff she can't talk about."
"Hah, and what kind of 'reasons' need that much money?"
His eyes turned cold.
He'd just given her ten million two days ago, and now she was already cozying up to another man, willing to strip for a million.
A woman like that—what sort of excuse could she possibly have?
"Don't defend her. I've seen a lot of gold-diggers like that. They're bottomless pits—you can pour in all the money in the world and it'll never be enough. They'd do anything, no matter how filthy, for the right price."
What Alexander didn't know was that Lucy's real bottomless pit was her gambling-addict father.
Olivia smirked quietly to herself, finally feeling at ease. Her face softened into an easy smile.
No way she'd speak up for Lucy. Let Alex keep hating her.
The worse their relationship got, the better. No more second chances.
She'd given Lucy money before, even got her a job at Alex's bar. All of it was part of the plan.
She'd already bribed the manager and Mr. Reed to stage this entire scene tonight.
She knew that once Alex saw Lucy crawling after married men in the bar for cash, he'd be utterly disgusted.
Everything was going smoothly.
A coy smile tugged at the corner of Olivia's lips.
Lucy, what makes you think you're even in my league?
