At the brink of death, Alexander finally had to admit—Lucy was really gone. Blood blurred his vision. He poked out his tongue, licking some from the corner of his lips. "Feels good beating me up, doesn't it?" Even though his eyes were shut tight, that twisted smile on his face made Black Card pull back for a second. "What did you say, weakling?" Alexander let out a laugh. Provoked, Black Card swung again, but his fist froze right at the tip of Alexander's nose. "Your kid's hiding spot... not bad. Real out of the way." Black Card's whole body went slack, arms dropping to his sides, eyes full of shock. "You were having fun a second ago, right? What, gonna stop now?" Alexander grabbed his hand and shoved it toward his bruised face. He looked completely unhinged.
