Chapter 14 You'll Pay With Your Life If My Child Is Gone!

Debbie quickly stepped in front of Fiona like a protective older sister. "Carlos, don't be like this. You know how much she loved that man-it'll only hurt her more if you get worked up! Let me talk to her, okay? I'll calm her down... just stay here, alright?" With that, Debbie pulled Fiona outside in full view of Carlos. The cold wind outside hit Fiona's face, jolting her senses awake. She stared daggers at Debbie, her voice sharp, "Enough. What the hell do you really want?" Debbie gave a sweet smile, casual like it was no big deal. "I'm helping you escape, obviously. I've opened the door. Whether you get out or not, that's on you." Fiona didn't hesitate. She spun around and darted off. She knew this place like the back of her hand-even if she couldn't get out, hiding wouldn't be a problem for now. But Debbie grabbed her wrist tight, yanking her back. In her palm sat two small white pills. "Take these. They won't kick in right away-won't slow you down or anything." Whether Fiona escaped or not wasn't the point. What mattered was she couldn't get away with the baby. Fiona struck her hand and knocked the pills to the ground. "You wish! I'd rather die than take those!" "No?" Debbie's expression turned cold. "Then die it is." Just then, as a bus rounded the nearby street corner, she shoved Fiona with everything she had. "Bang!" "Ah-ugh," The bus wasn't going fast, but Fiona still slammed into its hood with brutal force, the collision tossing her hard onto the pavement. A sharp pain twisted through her stomach, and seconds later, she felt something warm gush down her legs-sticky, metallic. Her heart clenched. The baby... Was she losing the baby? Debbie crouched beside her, a cruel smile creeping on her lips. "Told you, Fiona. You're not cut out to bring that child into the world. The only woman who deserves to have Carlos' baby is me." Fiona's face had gone pale, her whole body shaking. "Debbie... the baby did nothing wrong. How could you be so heartless?" Debbie's voice was soft, almost sweet, her lips curling up slightly. "Innocent? Don't make me laugh. Honestly? Carlos is the one who killed Bruce. Still feel good about carrying his child? Think about it-how are you gonna live with yourself if you do? I'm actually doing you a favor." "What?"Fiona froze - Bruce? Hit by Carlos? No. No way. That couldn't be true. She'd known Carlos since they were kids. He wasn't that cruel... right? Across from her, Debbie watched the disbelief twisting Fiona's face. A hint of amusement tugged at her lips as she coolly added, "You know what's funny? Bruce wasn't even the target. Carlos was aiming for you. Guess your heart just works better with mine, doesn't it? Too bad Bruce, that i***t, threw himself in front of the car to save you. Now that's love." "And you ever wonder why you couldn't get a single traffic cam footage from that day? Simple. The Mortons wiped the records clean. Come on, you think the cops at Champs Elysees are clueless for no reason? A regular hit-and-run taking months to investigate? Yeah, right." Fiona's body was going cold fast. Blood was soaking through her legs, pulsing out like a broken dam. Debbie's voice was still going, lips moving like a poisonous flower blooming before her. Everything blurred. Just one thing echoed in her mind: Carlos killed Bruce... Carlos really killed Bruce... Dazed, she heard footsteps-Carlos running toward her-and then Debbie's voice hit like a whip, sobbing first: "She said she'd rather die than have your baby! I tried to stop her, I really did..." Carlos's roar followed, a growl of fury and panic. "Fiona, if the baby's dead, you better be ready to pay with your life!" Fiona's lips trembled. She was shaking all over. Her voice was hoarse, barely a whisper, "Bruce... was it really you who killed him...?" Everything went black. The scene suddenly turned blood-soaked. An unformed baby, mangled and raw, clawed at her with hatred, its eyes screaming accusations of its own innocence and her cruelty. A heart, torn violently from its body, howled in despair. Over it all, the harsh, screeching sound of brakes-accompanied by the crash that smashed that beautiful figure to pieces in an instant. His heart was gone-just a hollow, gaping pit in his chest. Blood poured out as he cried in agony, "Fiona... Fiona... it wasn't worth it... not for them..." "Bruce! Bruce!" She cried his name over and over, desperate to hold on to him, but he kept slipping away, fragments of his broken body scattering around her. Carlos. Debbie. Monsters. They killed Bruce. Stole his heart. Took her baby. Every drop of blood they spilled, Fiona would make them pay for it tenfold. That boiling hatred swelled inside her, pushing hard and fast against her chest until- Bang! Fiona's eyes snapped open.
