Lilah Hart had just stepped into the main house with Gabriel Wallace when she turned her head and saw Lance Owen walking in right behind them.
She immediately let go of Gabriel’s hand. Once Lance headed upstairs with a stack of files, she turned and walked over to Ella Hayes.
"Hey, are you okay?" she asked, noticing the tear marks on Ella’s face.
"I’m fine..." Ella quickly wiped her cheeks, forcing a smile. "I’ll do my best."
This was her shot—her way out, the task her parents had left her. She couldn’t afford to blow it.
Without another word, Ella walked past Lilah and followed Lance into the house.
A few minutes later, Lance came back down after delivering the documents. Gabriel was chilling on the couch, sipping tea, and Lilah casually took a seat beside him.
