When he returned to the Heretics’ hideout, Wayne found them abuzz with enthusiasm. The chaos he’d created at the exhortation had enabled them to snatch nearly a hundred women from slavery in the Temple before the guards could rally and herd the rest back inside. Though some of the rescued women were too timid to take part in the revolution against the Prophet’s rule, most of them were quite willing to strike a blow at their oppressor. As before, the most difficult part was getting them to accept the fact that the real enemy was Rondel, not the ordinary men who’d engaged in the debauchery he encouraged.
