CARLA Waking up from whatever deep slumber I'd been in felt like I was rolling on spikes. Every turn I made resulted in a jolting pain. Muffled winces left my lips as I tried again, turning to my other side. My ribs ache badly, and I winced even louder. Lying back on the bed, I shut my eyes. Opening them again to a blurry effect, I had to blink a couple of times. To clear my vision. The strange ambiance. The strange smell. The bedding looked nothing like mine.
